Quote from a handbasket blog

A very appropriate quote from the blog a handbasket.

"Free people can treat each other justly, but they can't make life fair. To get rid of the unfairness among individuals, you have to exercise power over them. The more fairness you want, the more power you need. Thus, all dreams of fairness become dreams of tyranny in the end."

-- Andrew Klavan

Praying to Obama - MORE Scary stuff

The Audacity of Logic: Praying to Obama - Scary stuff

So it isn't really praying, but it is praising. You can watch it here. I don't really care where you stand politically, but this is a perfect example of an Absence of Logic on someones part. I'm not blaming Obama, it's just scary some of the stuff his Obamaniacs are doing. And the Tea Partiers scare Nancy P? This must really scare the P. out of Nancy P.

Mm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said that all must lend a hand
To make this country strong again
Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said we must be fair today
Equal work means equal pay
Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said that we must take a stand
To make sure everyone gets a chance
Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
He said red, yellow, black or white
All are equal in his sight
Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama
Yes! Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama

And then someone had the audacity to change the words of the Battle Hymn of the Republic (you know - "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord") to this...

Hello, Mr. President we honor you today!
For all your great accomplishments, we all doth say "hooray!"
Hooray, Mr. President! You're number one!
The first black American to lead this great nation!
Hooray, Mr. President we honor your great plans
To make this country's economy number one again!
Hooray Mr. President, we're really proud of you!
And we stand for all Americans under the great Red, White, and Blue!
So continue ---- Mr. President we know you'll do the trick
So here's a hearty hip-hooray ----
Hip, hip hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!
Hip, hip hooray!

Praying to Obama - Scary stuff

Please take a minute to watch this unedited video clip. This clearly shows a "pastor" of unidentified denomination leading a group in offering up prayers to Barrack Obama. I don't really know what to say other than this scares me greatly.

We Are Doomed

John Derbyshire's new book "We Are Doomed" caught my attention yesterday while surfing the net. While looking into it I stumbled across an excerpt from the book. After reading it I had to think there was definitely something to what he was saying. Not in a Chicken Little kind of way but more so in a manner of stark realism. And then to my surprise, this morning I stumbled across a Newsweek article by Julia Baird titled "Positively Downbeat - Sometimes happiness isn't everything." Coming from Newsweek, I immediately thought this has to give my thinking some balance.

How odd. Two days in a row. Is this a sign? Maybe my pessimism is not so bad. Maybe the gushy optimism we have been subjected to in our class rooms, work places, and so many other aspects of our lives for so many years, especially the last 18 months is not so good. Maybe, just maybe, too much kool-aid makes you sick.

I'll keep it short. Read the excerpt and article and draw your own conclusions. My conclusion: a healthy level of good old fashioned conservative pessimism is good. It will keep you safe and take you far. The audacity of logic and pragmatism. Too much happy-go-lucky liberal optimism is bad. It will blind you with delusions and expose you to risk and ultimate failure. As it has been said before, too much of a good thing can kill you. There has to be some moderation.

The Audacity of Logic: Not Too Smart - Hollywood's Big Mistake Part Deux

The Audacity of Logic: Not Too Smart - Hollywood's Big Mistake

And now we have the Roman Polanski situation. Dolley, add Debra Winger and some others to your list. To quote a Telegraph UK article, "the views of the Hollywood elite seemed out of step with those of ordinary Americans and they now face a backlash." They also note that on the LA Times website only 1 in 30 comments from the public supported Polanski. Reckon he'll skate? He does have power and money. I don't know, but it does work for a lot of politicians.

Did you ever wonder...

...why President Obama is so hot to get his health care plan through Congress, and the Democrats are even fighting a rule that would allow 72 hours to read the bill, when the effects of this bill, which are buried in a ton of legalese, won't come to light till AFTER the President runs for re-election in 2012? Could it possibly be because what's in this bill would be so contrary to what mainstream America wants, that the President would never get re-elected were we to understand it now?

Narcissism and the Cult of Personality Part 2

I find that these types of Audacity of Logic posts are the most difficult for me to write and put together, because I am out of my comfort zone, which of course is giving my opinion.  I struggle with the really important ones, so hang with me a little while I try to make some semblance of sense.  If you would care to review my first foray into this difficult subject, click away.

Narcissism and the Cult of Personality Part 1

Several months ago, I stumbled upon this subject and it has truly haunted me.  I have continued to research this and the amount of circumstantial evidence to support the declaration of Obama being a Narcissist is staggering.  I am no doctor, I don't even play one on TV - but I can read, and better yet, I can observe.  This American Thinker article started me down the Narcissist as a child avenue.  It is followed up with a disturbing article and poem by a young Barack Obama that seems to indicated he was violated in some manner by a family friend.

I am an outspoken critic of this President and his policies but I wept for the little boy who wrote that poem.

There is also tons of information about the early child name of Obama, Barry Soetoro, (which is his childhood name that he used when his mother was married to her second husband).  There is deep and thorough research on Indonesia Matters and some excellent info actually in a Yahoo Answer.

So assuming that anyone is still with me after all of the links I have put in this article, let's review:

Barack Obama was conceived out of wedlock
Barack Obama was a product of a mixed marriage between a middle America white girl and an African man.
Obama Senior was already married and committed bigomy when he married.
Barack Obama was abandonded by his father at 2 years old.
His parents divorced.
His mother moved him to Indonesia where he was forced into a Muslim school
His step father was an alcoholic
His mother was by no means a traditional mom
Barack Obama used a different name while in Indonesia
His mother and step father divorced.
Brack Obama was uprooted from Indonesia and sent to live with his white grandparents
Obama's grandfather was a by some accounts a disturbed man and an alcoholic
Obama's grandmother was a "typical white person"
Obama's grandfather determined that his drinking buddy, a self avowed communist, and child molester would be a good role model for Barack - to teach him how to be a black man.
Obama saw his father one time when he was 10, shortly thereafter his father was killed.

Uprooted, abused, abandoned, never belonging anywhere, Muslim, Christian, not black, not white, not wanted - these are the ingredience that went into the soup that is now Barack Obama.

God protect this nation.

How's That New Sensitive America Working for You Now, World?

After years of unabashed and undeserved Bush hating, the World rejoiced at the election of Obama.  But nine months in I am wondering, How's that workin' out for ya?  Chaos in our own hemisphere, Cuba, Chavez, and Honduras - the President of France thinks Obama is a pansy, the Germans have just gone conservative, and Iran just flipped the world the bird with Russia and China egging them on like gang members who know the new Principal doesn't have the balls to do anything about it. The US Dollar is in the toilet, we've started a trade dispute with China, more Mexicans have been killed on the Southern border than US soldiers in the War on Terror.  All under Obama's watch.  I think he needs to give some more speeches.

Maybe old George wasn't so bad after all.

Where is the Uproar?

Please, tell me that more people than just my humble self are outraged at the hypocrisy coming out of the People Republic of Massachusetts.

First the Democratic state legislature changes the law on appointing successors to the US Senate when they thought Kerry would be elected and they did not want Mitt Romney appointing a Senator. Now, they went and changed the law back to give the Democratic Governor the authority to appoint a Senator thereby taking away the rights of the people of Massachusetts.

They obviously have no shame - and what they have done is wrong. But, ask yourself if it was really unexpected out of them?

Did you ever wonder...

...why President Obama doesn't seem to have time to talk to his Commanding General in the field in Afghanistan about the war, doesn't think the ACORN problem is important enough to find out how much taxpayer money has been funneled to them, hasn't yet come out with a clear plan of action on dealing with Iran becoming a nuclear power, totally ignores the pleas of farmers in the San Joaquin Valley In California, where they have a federally mandated water restriction, to help save a tiny fish, while farms go belly up and the region experiences +40% unemployment, but can somehow find the time to make an emergency trip to Copenhagen to lobby for the city of Chicago to secure the 2016 Summer Olympics?

Not Too Smart - Hollywood's Big Mistake

Audacity of Logic readers know, we contributors are not so one dimensional that we don't like to pile up on the couch some nights and watch a little TV or a movie.  Unfortunately, I find there are increasingly more actors, actresses, film makers, singers, and entertainers in general that I can no longer watch or listen to.  Not because they are not talented or their work is bad, no, the sad fact is I can't stand their stinking political views and inane ramblings.  I get annoyed on a couple levels over this:

  1. Their synchophantic slobbering over Obama is nauseating as demonstrated in the I Pledge video
  2. Their general lack of understanding of the issues - a nightly dose of Bill O'Reilly's Pinheads and Patriots will give you a good taste in support of this position.
  3. Finally, I am saddened that people I once enjoyed watching, now just make me mad.
It can't be a smart career move to alienate half the country, right? So spout on Tom Cruise, Drew Barrymore, Whoopie Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Oprah, Brad Pitt, Sean Penn, Courtney Cox, Bruce Springsteen - hey, you seem to hate capitalism so much I guess you won't mind if I stop buying your movie tickets, watching your TV show, going to your concerts, and buying your albums.  Maybe I am just one person, and that really doesn't make a bit of difference, but then again maybe I am not.  Maybe, more and more Americans are waking up and feeling the same way I do and maybe the celebrities would be better off is they just hush.

Sallie Peake - Round 2

More from Wellford's now infamous mayor.

I think it is worthwhile to take some time to read the reader/viewer comments as well. Also, there is a link to the full 7+ minute interview in the write-up.

Transparency - Part III

Okay, we are looking for transparency. So I will start by showing some really embarrassing stuff from my home state. SC has been hammered in the MSM for Sanford (rightfully so), Wilson (not so sure), and in general just for being SC (I guess they still blame us for that little skirmish a few years ago). I am surprised they didn't have this all over the news for days in an attempt to further embarrass SC. When I saw it on the local news I was speechless. Absolutely amazed. I guess I tried to erase it from my memory until I saw it on another blog. So, in the interest of transparency, and in the interest of showing how important our responsibility is when we cast our votes in every election, please read and watch this and think about it the next time you go to the voting booth. Your vote does make a difference, make it count.

Wellford Mayor Sallie Peake Defends No Chase Policy

In the words of a blogger at The Sniper, "Super Duper Crazy - The mayor of this South Carolina town is nuttier than squirrel turds. Next on her agenda, no arresting criminals because it is the number one reason for the high cost of maintaining jails. What a friggin loon. If this woman was the mayor of my town I would go slap her in front of a bunch of cops and then run… I’m guessing the policy would last all of three minutes after that, if that."

'Nuff said.

Transparency - Part II

I should have included this earlier, but it can stand on its own. There is one thing that is absolutely transparent in Washington: Nancy Pelosi. She makes no bones about it. She is far left, very liberal, and makes no plans to budge to meet anywhere in the middle. This may be the only positive thing I have ever said about her, but with Nancy Pelosi, you always know what your going to get. She is going to get her government option and taxes for the rich no matter what. If Washington, DC could burn down around her as a result of her actions, it wouldn't stop her. It is hell or high waters.

It has been said that once DC starts a program, it never goes away. It just grows and grows. And for that reason, Obama and many left to moderate leaning members of Congress will take anything they can get. They know they can just grow it as they go, but they have to have something to start with. Once they get something, they can start working on the next "phase". But praise be for Nancy P. It's damn the torpedoes. Some people in San Fran apparently like her, but with approval ratings of only 19%, there are a whole lot of people who must not like her. And Democrats in Congress as a whole are only slightly ahead in approval ratings at 21%. And Republicans are a paltry 12%. Doing some simple math, only 1 in 6 Americans think our law makers are doing okay.

My prediction:

Health care = Little Big Horn
Congress = US Seventh Calvary
Pelosi = LTC George A. Custer
We The People = Lakota's and Cheyenne's

The Battle of Little Big Horn - an interesting parallel.

Maybe Obama wants transparency (I am curious to see how he responds to this), but it is obvious not everyone in Congress wants transparency, especially if it allows everyone the opportunity to see what they are doing before they can rush to a vote. The effort to amend the health care legislation being worked out in the senate that would require it to be posted in its entirety 72 hours before a vote was nixed in a close vote. You would think they would learn something after their rush to pass the stimulus package and all the negative feedback at town hall meetings. But it appears that the House of Representatives, in a bipartisan effort, is now moving to introduce a bill that would require all legislation and reports be posted in their entirety 72 hours before a vote.

Obama promised America transparency. I am beginning to think that the only thing transparent is that We The People are no longer respected by our elected Royalty. I hope we can keep the emotion and momentum high through the 2010 election. I think then we may actually start seeing some change we can believe in.

The Audacity of Logic - Obama Declares War on China

With Chinese tires, it's buyer beware. An interesting article to follow up Dolley's post. With nearly twenty years of manufacturing experience, most of which involves experience with joint ventures in China and imported content from Chinese manufacturers in an effort to reduce cost, I can attest to the fact that you do need to do your research and be careful. I have seen everything from excellent qulity to extremely poor quality coming from China, as well as other lower cost manufacturing countries. I have also seen first hand the detrimental effects unions can have on American efficiency and quality. In our modern age of the internet, you should do your research before making any purchase, no matter the country of origin. You never know where the parts that make up the whole came from. Made in the USA doesn't necessarily mean 100% made in the USA.

Svensmark: “global warming stopped and a cooling is beginning” – “enjoy global warming while it lasts”

Pretty provocative Title to the post, but then this is an interesting topic.

I am a huge defender of the environment and keeping it clean. We are expected to be good stewards of this earth which God created. And so, my family recycles and tries to conserve our use of fossil fuels and water and to ensure we do our best to not unduly pollute the environment we live in.

The debate wages on between Al Gore and the Global Warming crowd and the Rush Limbaugh junk science crowd. Probably, the truth is somewhere between the two opposite ends of the debate. Is there compelling evidence of warming? Tell a polar with too little ice to survive, or the retreating glaciers in the Alps that our environment has not moderated in recent years. The question seems to be "how little or significant is the human influence on the moderation?"

Now Danish scientist Henrik Svensmark has published "While the Sun Sleeps" explaining that our sun is entering a new period of "grand minimum" similar to that which occured during the "Little Ice Age."

Who knows who is correct? I guess we will just have to sit back and see if we continue to warm and eventually have beach front property in Atlanta and Dallas, or will we see the return of snow measured in feet instead of inches in the lower Midwest states.

Murtha Speaks "No More Troops for Afghanistan"

The chairman of the House subcommittee in charge of allocating war funding has drawn a line in the sand, saying he opposes any further troop increases for Afghanistan.

Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) speaking to Foreign Policy magazine states that he doesn't see how increasing troops would help bring a resolution to the eight-year-old conflict.

Do you think he just needs the money saved from not sending more troops to finish the job to help pay for his airport?

Calling Them Out - Jack Murtha

Let's Call them out, shall we?  Today, Audacity of Logic, is calling out Jack Murtha and the 52 other Senators who voted against cutting funding for his private airport.  It is truly an amazing time of political arrogance and elitism in the United States Congress, when we can't get our duly elected representatives to stop wasting our money on their perks.  The continued funding of Jack Murtha's airport for No One is a disgrace.  Kudos to Jim DeMint for trying to do something about it.  Shame on you, Senators, for voting to continue this disgusting pork barrel project.

And we wonder why there is a deficit.

Best Practices - Torte Reform

Missouri's example on Torte Reform is a model the Heath Insurance Reform debate should address.  No matter how much money is given by trial lawyers, it is still the right thing to do.  Anybody in Washington listening?

Did you ever wonder...

...about the irony of President Obama saying he will pay for health care by routing out the fraud and waste in Medicaid and Medicare, but when asked to comment on the ACORN issue, and how they had received over $54 million in taxpayer money, was quoted as saying he had little knowledge of the issues surrounding them, and had more pressing problems to deal with than to concern himself with this topic?

Did you ever wonder...

...about the hypocrisy of President Obama saying he won’t stop the Attorney General from investigating the CIA, even though seven former heads of the CIA asked him not to because it would hurt national security, saying that, “After all, no one is above the law,” and at the same time hasn’t yet called for a federal investigation of ACORN?

Did you ever wonder...

...why the President had a media blitz this Sunday and appeared on every major news outlet (and one that doesn’t even come close), but didn’t invite, and in fact boycotted, the news outlet (FOX) who has the majority of viewers, including almost a quarter of the Independents in this country, who will certainly end up deciding the 2012 presidential election, much like they did this last time around?

The Political Might of the Tea Partiers

"Even Elmo can vote yes to something he doesn't have to read!"  I loved that sign.  Americans of ages, races, creeds, parties, and economic circumstance - off their couch, out of their mini-van, from behind their desk, and off the tractor are exerting a political might not seen before from a right leaning movement.  Protesters, in my lifetime, are always left leaning.  They are usually fringe groups and have displayed their propensity for violence often, while the Tea Parties have been peaceful.  That is except for the Tea Partier that was brutally beaten by SEIU thugs, or the psycho who bit his own thumb off at a pro Obama care ralley - but I guess they were opposition and shouldn't be called Tea Partiers.

I saw a Youtube video last night of an interview with a prominent Republican fundraiser.  He was at a Tea Party on 9/12 and was amazed at the thousands of folks that had come to the local rally.  While at this point the Tea Party is not a viable 3rd party, this was the first person I had heard discussing the possibility.  I believe though, that the Tea Party is a movement and that candidates will emerge from it and be supported by a well informed Tea Party electorate.  We have seen this in my town, where a recent Republican Primary gave victory to two young Tea Party organizers.  The local media and newspaper were absolutely shocked.

Thus, the Tea Partiers will flex their political muscle and inform their members on positions, ethics, and responsiveness of candidates.  Look out elite politicians and media - the American People have awakened and we are coming to get you.

Truth - It is Time to Start Talking Again

Audacity of Logic readers have come to expect critical thinking and logical presentation of facts in all of our commentaries, so let's talk about some hot button issues.  The Attorney General of the United States said that Americans did not have the guts to talk about racism today.  I think he is perhaps correct, but not because we are cowards and all racists at heart.  I believe he threw that out knowing that in March of 2009, we would not engage.  I believe in March, he was right.  I believe in September, he will be proven wrong.

For the past few decades, we as a people have been told not to critically discuss issues amongst ourselves that would cause disagreements and lead to fiery debate.  You know the adage and the admonition that you should not discuss politics or religion and let us not forget the untouchable subject of racism.

I must ask though, are we better off as a nation and a people because we are so "civil" to each other or have we lost one of the things that made us fundamentally alive?  What happens to a people when they stop discussing the most important issues of our day?  I believe we stop being a people that will speak the truth and are poorer in spirit for it.  I believe that each of us begins to create our own realities based on our feelings and not the facts.  I believe we will make for ourselves political ideologies and spiritual truths that are not well grounded in truth, but instead a collection of our own personal conclusions.  We hold on to these personal convictions and because we live in a society that does not demand we defend our convictions in a logical manner, we are left with half formed gushy convictions that do not serve us or society well.  We become offended and defensive when someone questions us or challenges us about these personal truths.  When forced to defend them, we feel personally attacked.  We do not like coming out of our comfort zone and will gather around ourselves like minded people who condemn the questioner or challenger instead of defending our convictions.

Absolute truth has been stripped of its ability and purpose to cleave between bone and sinew, to separate the facts from the emotions.  The rejection of absolute truth as a building block and premise of civil society has the effect of denigrating the society to a group of  wishy washy citizens easily led down the path of what feels good.  Absolute truth though, does not change based on your feelings, see it is stronger than our rationales, it does not alter with the political or social climate of the times.  Absolute truth remains a bulwark against our own personal suppositions.

Absolute truth stands boldly before failed ideology and calls it out.  I can feel the bristling out there, but you must choose, if we are to continue living in a civil society, we MUST choose.  Let us take some obvious examples - Murder is wrong.  Absolute truth, right?  But is it in our society still?  Or do we have circumstantial rationale for even that?  Having sex with children is wrong.  But some will say, that is just the way I am and it is okay for me.  How about cheating on a test?  What about lying?  What about adultery?  Today, we can come up with scenarios that excuse all or most of this behavior.  Is it any wonder then, that we are rejecting the foundations of our Republic and leaning toward the mob rule of Democracy?  Law says something is bad and forbidden, man can rationalize the behavior and we are much more comfortable with that.

We see this today in our political exchanges.  When we can not prove our point, we name call and ridicule.  Is there any more blaring case before us today than the Joe Wilson/Barack Obama tempest?  Joe Wilson's outburst was against etiquette, but he was right.  Once it was discovered that he was right, well then, he was called a racist.  What would have been so wrong about saying, you know, after we looked into it, the President had misspoke and here is what we are going to do about it.

Both sides decry the other when they are faced with the truth.  An honest person will concede.  I find that while doing that initially is painful, it leads to a wealth and a depth and a breadth of understanding I did not enjoy here to fore.  I am enriched when I realize I was mistaken and give the other person their due for presenting truth.  Why is that seen today as weakness?  It is strength of character and soundness of mind that recognizes and acknowledges our own fallibility. Weakness is actually holding on to false ideals when presented with logical facts to the contrary.

Ideology above facts or truth.  Win at all costs.  Name call and demean.  Lie about your opponent to suit your needs.  The ends justify the means.  You are a troglodyte stuck in an outmoded and outdated mind set.

Folks, it is time to engage.  It is time to stop being afraid of confrontation.  It is time to hold what you believe in up to the glaring light of the sun to determine if it can withstand the light of day.  After all, our convictions and faith, for which we base our lives must be able to stand up to scrutiny, otherwise we ourselves can not stand up to scrutiny.  That my friends is worse than being uncomfortable.

Crying Wolf - A True Story

My Great Grandmother Cleo was a feisty woman and as a child was particularly mischievous.  She loved to tease and taunt her baby sister, Lula, who was a chubby kid.  Grandma made up all sorts of outlandish stories and would trick her sister in silly ways, some of the stories are so good that our family is still chuckling about them nearly a century after they first occurred.  One story though, will live on well past the others as it has served as an object lesson to all us "Madison" kids.

My Great Grandmother was born and raised in WV around the turn of last century.  The family was poor and one of the chores the girls had to do was pick berries.  One day, Grandma, being ornery called to her sister that she's been bit by a snake and for her sister to come help.  Lula came running and being chubby, this made Grandma laugh, which was the whole point in tricking Lula, so she could watch her run.  Weeks went by and Grandma did it again, and again, Lula came running.  Grandma laughed and laughed, until one day, she really did get bit.  It was a copperhead and in the 1910's, this was serious business.  Lula ignored her sisters cry for help and assurances that she wasn't tricking her again and went home.  Grandma collapsed in the berry patch and laid there for hours.  She nearly died.

Today, many people need to be reminded of this story as it relates to calling someone a racist.  By flinging the word around at the drop of a hat, they are crying wolf.  One day, when the racism copperhead actually does strike at somebody, they will be ignored, because we aren't falling for that old trick again.

Obama's Opinion Sparks a Debate

And it isn't on health care. It isn't on Cap and Trade, global warming, unions, Iran, Iraq, the CIA, or any of the really important issues our country is facing right now. How about the Patriot Act (I had to throw that one in, I imagine some heads exploded over this news considering all the crap Bush got over it). No. The debate has been sparked by the mainstream media over Obama calling Kanye West a jackass. First of all, he is. Secondly, thank God no one can play the race card on this one. Obama on Kanye, black on black. Listen, we do need to get past the name calling every time we disagree with, or criticize, a person of a different color. It is not always racism. Even if it is the president, Mr. Carter.
Look, Obama is all about family and personal responsibility and I honestly appreciate and like that about him. Regardless of my political differences with him, I think he and I probably share a lot of personal and family convictions and views. Kanye apparently needs some parenting right now. He missed out of some of the lessons I am certain his mother tried to teach him while she was alive. And who better to give it to him than our president. If my son brought disgrace to my family name in a national arena and I was not still here on this earth to call him a jackass myself (while trying to plant foot-in-ass), I would love to think that the president may step in on my behalf. Thank you, Mr. President, for saying what everyone else was thinking. And do not be ashamed for the choice of words. They were absolutely appropriate.
That being said, my biggest problem with this is the mainstream media. We have a lot of big issues going on that they are complicit in ignoring. ACORN is imploding with a lot of help from an independent sting operation. Call it what you want, legal or illegal, the horse is out of the barn now and it's too late to close the gate. The US Census Bureau drops ACORN after the first of the tapes were made public, and then the Senate votes 83-7 to strip ACORN of a large sum of its government funding after more tapes are released. I am not sure why, at this point, 7 senators still considered funding ACORN an option, but I am sure we will hear more about that. Please refer to my earlier post about cleaning up our Congress. This may prove to be a good example of the lack of morals and ethics I was discussing. The WSJ puts it well, "ACORN Runs Off The Rails". And the mainstream media is largely out to lunch on this one.
Charlie Gibson, Chief Anchor for ABC, says he hasn't even heard about it. It's been 5 days since this story broke. No wonder there has been a buzz about him "retiring". Apparently, he already has to some degree. ABC has to be hugely embarrassed. Even if they choose not to cover the story, you have to at least acknowledge the existence of the story. At least do like NBC and talk down your nose and try to belittle the ones who are choosing to cover it.
Dolley was right about the death of the mainstream media. They are going to hold onto that joystick until the tail spinning, fire breathing plane crashes and burns. Let's be honest though. Some will survive. Despite what they may be saying out of one side of their mouth, they are still capitalist operations. Even Michael Moore is a capitalist. Don't tell me he isn't in it for the money. "Survival of the fittest" mentality will kick in with some and they will adapt and overcome. I sometimes think I am even seeing a flicker of light in a lot of the mainstream print media. But the mainstream TV media is still up in the air. The only one I feel pretty sure about is NBC (and its affiliates). They will go as Obama goes, so they better hope he goes far, and not away. Someone tied both of their hands to the joystick and took the last parachute on their way out the door.

To Censure or Not To Censure?

Who cares!!! The political skies have turned very stormy and grey in South Carolina for many pundits. While I do not condone the actions of Representative Joe Wilson, R-SC, I think to have a band of misfits with so many publicly documented shows of unethical and unacceptable behavior try to censure anyone would make the whole notion of a censure actually meaning anything laughable. When they decide to censure anyone and everyone whose actions bring shame, dishonor, and discredit to our highest branches of government, then, and only then, may the act of censure actually carry some meaning. Go ahead, censure him. Hell, censure me. It may actually help get me some publicity and go a long way towards getting me elected to some public office. Isn't that how it works today? Do something unthinkable and get elected?

Again, the door swings both ways. Accuse one side of partisan politics and grandstanding while you are doing nothing less than the same.

There is one form of censure, basically defined as a process by which a formal reprimand is issued to an individual by an authoritative body, that I hope the public (read "authoritative body") exercises in 2010, 2012, 2014, ....

Vote out the corruption, in both parties, and vote in citizen representatives with no intention of making politics a lifelong career and using our government for a cash cow. We need to restore morals and ethics in our House and Senate, from sea to shining sea...

Obama Declares War on China

This is a rant.  This is not the normal, well thought out, poetic prose, that Audacity of Logic readers usually get from a Dolley Madison post.  This is a tantrum!  You see, I am involved in International Trade, I have an Economics  Degree, I am a Customs House Broker, I am also an avid reader and history buff - as such, I am well qualified to loose my freaking mind over the latest debacle by the Union Organizer and Chief.

Would somebody PLEASE give Barack Hussein Obama a blessed history book?  On the road to quickly becoming the worst President ever, Obama sets a punitive tariff on imported Chinese tires!  Can somebody please tell this idiot that the Great Depression was only begun after the Smoot Hawley tariffs were put into place?  For those of you who don't know what that was, it was a protectionist tariff designed to increase the costs of imported goods and "protect" our industries.  (If you are so inclined I can send you a link that will show they are still on the books and reserved for countries we have embargoes against.  Thus, if you want to bring in a blanket from North Korea, even though it is illegal, you would pay the duty on the Smoot Hawley rate which is around 50%)

Protectionism DOES NOT work, in fact it always has the opposite effect and sent the world into the Great Depression.  Right now in history, our fragile economy has been allowed to operate for a few months without more HELP from the government, and is showing signs of hope.  Obama crushes the new shoot with a giant foot.  (This has to be on purpose.... No way do they not know what this will do.)

Over the weekend, our second largest trading partner is slapped with a punitive (not Constitutionally authorized) 35% punitive tariff on Chinese tires.  The Chinese of course are furious and will retaliate.

I don't even technically know what it is being called because CUSTOMS has not issued any directives to the industry to tell us what it is or how we are supposed to implement the latest from the Idiot and Chief!

The kicker in this whole thing, is normal channels are not being followed.

Typically what happens, is someone in the industry being "hurt" files a motion in court.  A a case is opened by the ITC (International Trade Commission) and the industry is asked for input during an investigation period.  Comments from concerned parties are entertained and an investigation is launched.  There is a process, there is an acceptable way of doing this kind of thing, but of course these rules don't apply to King Barack Obama.  This due process allows people to prepare for possible cost increases in their product and to adjust prices to their customers.  This allows importers to budget their costs and adjust their forecasts.  This due process allows time for computer programs to be changed to accommodate the new laws, rates, and case numbers.  This due process prevents special interests from getting a hold of a person in power and having them willey nilley screw up trade relations with another country as political payback or favor granting.

Who knew that one day the Presidency would be bought and paid for by Special Interests?  Who knew that one day the President would be at the beck and call of the Unions?  Who knew that the Unions would one day OWN the President of the United States and be free direct policy on trade, fire CEO's and take over industries, direct stimulus, health care, and energy policy.  If you doubt me, research it!  Go to Youtube and type in SEIU and Obama.  Do some homework, you will find I am right.

The pisser of the whole thing?  YOU get screwed.  That's right folks, take it from an economics major, I don't remember much, but I sure do remember the empirical FACTUAL evidence that the only people that benefit from a situation like this are the unions and the consumers pay the price.

So bend over America as you change that flat tire on the side of the road.  Barack Obama has a jack and he knows exactly where to put it.

Where Do We Stand?

In the wake of 9/11, I have been thinking about what it is that actually holds us together as Americans.  We seem to disagree on so much that can the Republic survive with such polar opposite views and opinions?  Where do you come down on these issues?

1.  State directed or Free market economy?
2.  Individual liberty or collective good?
3.  The Founding Fathers were:  Deist/Atheist or devoted Christians?
4.  The Constitution is a living breathing document or it should be strictly interpreted?
5.  American is a good and just country - or America is a flawed country that has made the world a worse place?
6.  Gay marriage is a just cause or gay marriage is a socially destructive force that threatens our society?
7.  Abortion is okay?
8.  The Federal Government has too much power or the Federal Government has just the right amount of power?
9.  The New Deal brought us out of the Great Depression or lengthened and worsened it?
10.  Trickle down economics does not work or it is the best mechanism for the free market?
11.  Israel is a wicked and oppressive country or Israel is our greatest ally.
12.  Global Warming is a myth or Global Warming is the greatest threat to our World today?
13.  The needs of the endangered species should always be on a higher scale than human enterprise and well being?  Or, human impact must be taken into consideration when ruling on endangered species issues?
14.  Government run schools or school choice?
15.  Business is basically evil and Unions are needed to protect the working people?  Or Unions destroy companies, enterprises, and communities and limit the competitive advantage of American companies saddled with them?
16.  Global trade should be encouraged as a way to foster cooperation and grow wealth, or US companies should not have to compete with slave labor made products and higher tariffs should be applied to imported goods?
17.  I believe that rich people take advantage of poor people and should be taxed accordingly, or rich people create jobs for poor people and give them the opportunity to improve their lives?
18.  Welfare should be administered by the state.  Welfare should be administered by the church.
19.  The USA is a Christian country founded on Judeo-Christian principals.  The USA is a secular country and God has no place in the public arena.
20.  The liberal phylosophy of government works in the real world or the conservative phylosophy works in the real world.
21.  People are basically good - people are basically bad.

Where do you stand?

Silence - How the Main Stream Media are Failing the Country and Themselves

Listen closely - do you hear the crickets chirping?  Yes, that is the main stream media's coverage on such pivotal and critical topics such as Van Jones, NEA resignation, Acorn and to a large extent the Tea Party protests across the country yesterday.  Why?  Why does the main stream media ignore or bury these stories?  To the detriment of their circulation, ratings, and thus their bottom lines they are marching along to the beat of the politico and headed straight for the cliff of obscurity and financial ruin.

The main stream media did not properly vet candidate Obama.  There is absolutely no way even liberals can deny that had Obama been a conservative his radical past and associates would have been exposed.  The main stream media is not researching and vetting the bills before Congress and the bills passed by Congress.  The stimulus package is so riddled with corruption and waste every politician who had a hand in it should hang their head in shame.

The corrupt and criminal behavior of members of Congress and their associates is allowed to continue with average Americans knowing little about the criminal investigations into among a few Rangel and Conyers.  That Barney Frank was associated with a male prostitute ring is largely ignored and the vitriolic hatred and despot behavior of this powerful Congressman is left unchallenged.  The Pelosi earmarks for a mouse and for tax breaks for American Samoa (where her husband has major financial interests), calling the CIA liars, and the hypocrisy of her comments and statements about protesters is astonishing.  Diane Feinstein's corrupt maneuverings on behalf of her husband's interests with the FDIC have gone completely unreported.

I will leave the double standard out of it because honestly, it is more important for the main stream media to begin doing their jobs than it is to blame them for what they have not done in the past.  A free and fair press was one of the checks and balances that the Founding Fathers believed in.  A break down of this component of our Republic is detrimental to the press from an economic stand point but more importantly from the free functioning of our Country.

Metaphorical Truth

Recently, I received an email that contained one of those stories that float around cyber space, which no one knows who started, and which invariably end up being believed as absolute gospel, simply by virtue of how prolific its posting has become.

This particular story supposedly tells about the origin of the playing of TAPS, as done so by the military, at funerals, etc. It is a romantic and moving account of a Union Captain during the Civil War who hears a soldier moaning at night out on the battlefield, and not knowing which side the wounded soldier belongs to, decides to find him in the dark and drag him back to Union lines. Unfortunately, the soldier dies before the Captain reaches his lines, and he then is horrified when he realizes the dead soldier is his own son, who had joined the Confederate Army without his knowledge. Having been musically inclined in life, the father finds a piece of paper in the dead soldier’s pocket with some notes the deceased lad had scribbled, before meeting his demise. It is TAPS and the father request it played at his son’s burial.

As I said, very moving. Also, very false. The actual story is far different from the tearful account noted above. Anyone wishing to know the actual mundane origin of TAPS can find it quite easily on the Internet. Here is just one location, at West Point’s site:

As a historian, I of course knew the tear-jerker version to be false. I started looking around and found a plethora of sites where they had posted this nonsense. I responded to one and posted a message that this story was totally false and where the actual account of how TAPS came about could be found.

Here is the response I got back:

There are different kinds of truth and different ways of receiving that truth. Sometimes the metaphorical truth is more important to the heart than the strict factual truth.

For me, my father, and many others, this is a healing story of a divided a war that still leaves traces from nearly tearing our nation apart.

I happened to receive this little jewel of wisdom while staying at the house of George and Dolly this past Labor Day weekend. When I read this response, George’s apoplectic response was, “What!!! Did she actually say ‘metaphorical truth'???" When I nodded yes, he walked away in disgust, shaking his head.

I responded to Janet’s post thusly:

I'm sorry Janet. While you, and others, may derive some comfort from this fictional account, I've always believed that while you may find different ways of receiving the truth, there is only ONE kind of truth I know of, especially when dealing with historical facts; I call that the ‘truth, truth’.

While you, and others, may believe it fairly benign to offer this maudlin story under the guise of it being a 'metaphorical truth,' which obviously soothes your conscience somehow, this, however, promotes the idea that the concept of a ‘metaphorical truth' is somehow justified. I seriously doubt your children, if you have any, would fare well on a history test by using 'metaphorical truths,' nor would you do any better in a court of law enacting this concept. I’ve always been taught that the truth shall set you free. I’ve never heard that a 'metaphorical truth' afforded the same benefit.

George and I are taking bets that this person is a dyed-in-the-wool, card caring member of the ‘feel-good’ liberal party. Anyone want some of this action?

BTW, I checked a day later on her site, and not only was the false story still there, but my post had been deleted.

Where were you...

when the world stopped turning that September day?

I still cry when I hear this song.

I remember hearing about it at work. I was so incredulous about the word of mouth report that a friend and I went outside to where our cars were parked to tune into the news. I kept thinking to myself, "what is significant about 9/11, where's the punchline." It seemed like a "War of the Worlds" moment, but it was real.

The disbelief, the horror, the fear, the anger, the raw emotions coming up from deep inside that I had never felt. Patriotism trumped everything else at an instance. For a moment we were no longer a nation of races, creeds, sexes. There was no Democrat or Republican, black or white, native or foreign, man or woman. We were united as Americans, everyone of us was the same, if only for a moment.

That is why we should never forget. We should remember the way we felt and the way we felt about everyone around us at that instant and attempt to live in that light. We may not always agree, but we are still all Americans.

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Out in the yard with your wife and children
Working on some stage in LA
Did you stand there in shock at the site of
That black smoke rising against that blue sky
Did you shout out in anger
In fear for your neighbor
Or did you just sit down and cry

Did you weep for the children
Who lost their dear loved ones
And pray for the ones who don't know
Did you rejoice for the people who walked from the rubble
And sob for the ones left below

Did you burst out in pride
For the red white and blue
The heroes who died just doing what they do
Did you look up to heaven for some kind of answer
And look at yourself to what really matters

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day
Teaching a class full of innocent children
Driving down some cold interstate
Did you feel guilty cause you're a survivor
In a crowded room did you feel alone
Did you call up your mother and tell her you love her
Did you dust off that bible at home
Did you open your eyes and hope it never happened
Close your eyes and not go to sleep
Did you notice the sunset the first time in ages
Speak with some stranger on the street
Did you lay down at night and think of tomorrow
Go out and buy you a gun
Did you turn off that violent old movie you're watching
And turn on "I Love Lucy" reruns
Did you go to a church and hold hands with some stranger
Stand in line and give your own blood
Did you just stay home and cling tight to your family
Thank God you had somebody to love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

I'm just a singer of simple songs
I'm not a real political man
I watch CNN but I'm not sure I can tell you
The difference in Iraq and Iran
But I know Jesus and I talk to God
And I remember this from when I was young
Faith hope and love are some good things he gave us
And the greatest is love

The greatest is love
The greatest is love

Where were you when the world stopped turning that September day?

The Green Movement - The Marriage of Envirnomentalist and Anarchist

I often try to temper my commentary, in the hopes that I can show the misguided the error of their ways in a civil and logical fashion, but I have determined that it is more important to speak the truth about this issue than it is to influence people. Honestly, the title of this post will cause most, if not all, devotees to reject what is written therein as propaganda and conservative rantings. So I will put forth the unvarnished story as I have uncovered it and allow that I will not sway the minds of the hard core zealot, but perhaps will open the eyes of everyday Mr and Mrs. Joe and Jane Brown.

The Green Movement; are these well meaning folks, concerned with the Earth and the environment or are they something more sinister? Would you believe me if I told you both? A year ago, I would have scoffed at such a conspiratorial supposition. "Tree Huggers" are a bit misguided, but dangerous? The hippies of the 60's are now running the show and if you recall there were two types - the ones that promoted peace, love, and lots of drugs and the ones that blew stuff up, killed people, and robbed banks. Well, they found each other in the hippie retirement home and got married. They now go by the name Mr. and Mrs. Green.

To fully understand, you have to start at the beginning. This story begins in a garden. A place of perfection and an Environmentalist wildest dream. You see, love of the Earth and protection of the environment is nothing new. Human kind was created in part to be the caretaker of this planet, this was instilled in us by God in the Garden of Eden; it is hard coded into our DNA. He also instilled within us a desire to commune with Him, to walk with Him in the cool of the day. Some invite and allow God to occupy that space inside of them, others do not. Those that reject Him are consequently left with an unfulfillable void, a God Spot so to speak. People can not tolerate the emptiness in their spirit and will search to find something to fill it. Some choose drugs, some alcohol, some choose Mother Earth, the environment, and holistic health and diet.

They embrace the love of Earth because it corresponds so closely in their hearts to a life giving and loving God. But this god is not the life giving and loving god they are searching for, this god is is false. Followers think they set the rules, when in fact they are commanded to take care of her, this god needs them to DO things for her. This god demands that her devotees make disciples of all men, otherwise, she will die and it will be your fault. Earth does not tolerate dissent or facts that contradict well established doctrines of worship. This god perpetuates crisis to keep her followers in a state of panic and turmoil. What started out as such a beautiful and peaceful way of life begins to consume the disciple, it is no longer comforting to meditate on the beauty of a tree because the capitalist pigs are destroying the air, the soil, and the water and that tree is going to die - unless YOU do something about it.

Enter in the origin of the second member of Mr. and Mrs. Green - you remember, the blow your shit up partner? Well, he's cleaned up his act since the 60's, he learned from the Master Saul Alinsky, and now he wears a suit and a tie. This is the guy in the Garden that whispered into Eve's ear, that God was really not a benevolent Father - God was the oppressor, He's just trying to keep you down! What's He going to do anyway, you need to take some of that power He's been hoarding for Himself. Go ahead, get you some. Yeah, I know He said it was against the law, but who is He anyway? Who says you have to listen to Him? Besides, everybody is always telling you what to do around here, isn't it time you stood up for yourself? After you take this, life will be so much better - you will be like God, knowing, seeing, and being! So out of the perfection of Eden, the Anarchist is born.

Throughout history the Anarchist seeks to destroy and overthrow, with temporal and mild success. The Earth continues with an outward sign of peace and love, but is on many levels becoming angry at the lack of real progress. And one day it happens, Anarchist is walking by and sees the Earth and instead of scoffing and ignoring each other, as they have been for millennium, they wearily fall onto the park bench and heave a sigh of frustration.

The year is 1990, and both are looking a lot worse for the wear. Anarchist has just lost his temporary glory with the fall of Communism and now has no where else to go. The Environmentalist is frustrated because all of the things she has been fighting for are being put into place and she doesn't feel needed anymore. So in mutual misery they sit, each feeding off the others misfortunes and runs of bad luck. Before long, though, they begin to look at each other in a different light. The Environmentalist gazes upon the strength and fire and anger of the Anarchist, this is what she has been missing. Anarchist looks upon the Environmentalist and at last grasps the idea that people in large part are not drawn toward him, but wow, look at her. She's stunning and as a team, they are perfect together.

The soft spoken Earth Lover orders water shut of to the Farmers in the San Joachim Valley to protect the precious delta smelt, while Anarchist stirs up hatred among the poor and displaced farm workers. They wouldn't be in that position if the Capitalist oppressors would just let the water go. The poor people in central California are being beaten with both sides of the same stick and don't even know it.

The lumberjacks in Washington and Oregon are accused by the Earth Child of killing the spotted owl, the Anarchist chains himself to a tree. Together, they destroy the most prosperous and prolific timber industry in the world and they are ready to take on more.

They find the perfect vehicle, a former Vice President. His back ground and education do not make his a traditional figure head, but he is embittered and he is ambitious. He has one thing Mr. and Mrs. Green don't have - International clout. They strike up an alliance. The learn from each other. They put a fresh coat of paint on the movement and reemerge.

Do not loose sight of who is behind this movement! Anarchist is intent on the complete and total destruction of all civil society. Earth embraces dedevelopment and communism, Earth demands of her subjects slavery.

Even more frightening, is Mr. and Mrs. Green have moved into the White House with Mr. and Mrs. Obama. What a fine time they are having, staying up late, plotting the next move described as a green job, Earth has learned her craft well and Anarchist has polished his image so much, you might even invite him to dinner. It looks as if the White House has.

As such, the motivations of all that comes from this movement are foul for a bad tree can not bear good fruit. The radical environmental policies of these groups must be resisted. To not, is to endanger the Republic and the future of this country.

God Bless us and guide us in this treacherous time.

Critical Thinking, Logic, and Brutal Self Examination

I am a thinker. I am a writer. I am a passionate lover of God, Country, and Family. I have an economics degree and have been in the business world for 20 years. I am an unabashed free trader and capitalist.

But then I must also consider: Am I a hypocrite? Am I so consumed with the superiority of my views that I refuse to consider the opinions of others? Am I hateful and offensive in my passion?

I must confess, that I have done some intense soul searching in those areas of late. For I am truly fallible and understand that in all manner of life, I must constantly self evaluate and pray that the Lord will convict me when there is too much Dolley and not enough Jesus. The Lord will most certainly, decisively and quickly set me straight in those areas.

What started me down this road, though, were posts from several friends on one of the social networking sites that said, if you believe this, take me off your "Friends" list and another that intimated that all Republicans were liars and hypocrites. I must confess I was taken aback by their stance, and while, perhaps not specifically directed toward me, sent me down the road none the less. Technically, I no longer consider myself a Republican, but accepted the broad stroke to include people of the Conservative persuasion.

The gist of the posts concerned the President's address to school children and the storm surrounding it. I was forced to ask myself, would I be holding the same position were the President someone that held my world view. The painful answer was, no, probably not. Upon reaching that somewhat discomforting conclusion, I continued to investigate the issue. I have come to the conclusion, in the Tradition of Audacity of Logic, that while I may not have objected to another President that shared my world view addressing school children, it is wrong from a Constitutional stand point. Thus, no President or political leader should be conducting this activity.

This was my response to the all Republicans are liars post:

I read the text on Monday and I thought the address was fine. Perhaps geared more appropriately to troubled children than to my sheltered middle class kid. My son is not even aware you CAN drop out of school and does not have a clue about AIDS. ....

The President is a temporary public servant. He is not a King, or a Father Figure - he is by definition the head of his political party, the CEO of the Country, and the Commander and Chief. We have allowed the expansion of the role of the Federal Government to overshadow too many areas of our lives - they are not even Constitutionally empowered to participate
in Education.

The enumerated powers and the 10th Amendment limit the scope and the preview of their authority, yet we continue today to allow the ever encroaching specter of the Federal bureaucracy into our lives. The Founding Fathers understood this and instituted a system of checks and balances that is in large part ignored by us. We are becoming a nation that looks to the government to solve our problems, motivate our children, and take care of us from the cradle to the grave. Thus, from that mind set and logical set of reasons, we opted to have our son participate in other activities during the speech. Contextually, I did not object to the message, I do not, however, agree with the worldview from which it came - but I am honest about that."

Obama Address to Schools

If they would have published the transcript last week, maybe more schools would have let their students participate. I could be an a**hole Republican like Van Jones says they are and try to nitpick the speech, and I have not seen the video of it, but if it went word for word from the transcript, there are a lot of students out there that may be able to benefit from it. Having worked with youth, I know the value and importance of having someone not only believe in you, but also believe that you can do better, and expect you to do better. I have seen the positive effects of them having a positive influence in their life. And Obama, like him or not, has the ability to be a positive influence in a struggling child's life. Too bad the White House could not have been transparent on this one all the way from the beginning.

Dolley, I agree wholeheartedly...

and would like to add something. Here's the set up. I heard a band of Sunday Morning news show hosts (wish I could remember the network) going on about the lack of respect for the president and when did America become this country that couldn't show the office of the president the respect in deserved?

No. 1, nobody deserves respect just because of any title, you earn respect. We all deserve decent and respectful treatment, including the senators and representatives doing their duty to their constituents by going to town hall meetings. However, respect itself is a different thing. Respect is a two way street. The president works for us and I think would have much more of the people's respect if he showed like respect to the people. Many would argue that calling him narcissistic is slanderous, but regardless of the label, we have not in my years seen a president so compelled to be seen and heard. He does not recognize the opposition as having valid concerns on any issue. He just presses on forward trying to make the opposition seem uninformed, uneducated, or uncaring. He has no respect for the opposition. And right now, the opposition is in the majority. So, he is going to have an incredibly hard time getting some respect.

No. 2, when did it begin? George W. Bush! Bill Clinton! These guys were skewered on a regular basis. And by whom? The media! But now their darling is not "getting the respect he deserves as President of the USA" and they find it shameful. You get what you give, and I am sorry, but Obama ain't giving. At least not to me when I write him expressing my concerns about specific agenda items. I get a BS response that is a patent form letter talking about health care. I didn't even have a concern about health care expressed in my correspondence. Does he think that is all anyone could be writing him about?

And here's my take. Reagan and Bush (the first) are the most recent presidents to address students and the left/liberal ranks agrue that there lies the double standard. So hear me out. The low approval ratings and the lack of mutual respect, coupled with a politically charged environment unlike any we have seen in years, makes me have trust issues. I will be honest, I do not trust Obama, or any political official right now, to keep a message to my children neutral. I do not trust Obama, or any political official right now, to not politicize the moment. And the fact that their first lesson plan was quickly retracted, and the opposition to releasing a transcript of the speech just adds to the trust issue. Letting Obama do this without any screening has more risk than reward. If he says something that I would rather he not have said in front of my children, well the horse is already out of the pasture. I personally do not trust President Obama. I think he will say and do whatever he feels justifies the ends. He knows what he wants and expects to get it. His tenacity isn't necessarily a bad thing, but if you want my respect, show me a little respect.

My children are A students and consistently rank at the top of their classes. They know the importance of their education. I have done my job as a parent in this regard and it shows. Maybe Obama needs to focus on the parents. In fact, I think he did say something in a campaign speech. Maybe he is finding out adults are not as impressionable as their children.

Death - Puppies, Kittens, and Children Should be Destroyed!

What a title, huh? Ludicrous, isn't it? Who is against puppies, kittens, and children? Who for that matter is against education and environment? I mean what kind of monster are you anyway? Who in their right mind can possibly object to the President speaking to school kids about staying in school and doing their best? What could possibly be wrong with treating the earth with respect and promoting clean energy solutions? Clearly, if you object to such wholesome and fundamentally sound principals you are not worthy of consideration and are indeed worthy of my disdain and ridicule. Most folks leave it at that and go blindly about their business, never stopping to consider more than the 15 second, scoffing talking head coming through their TV screen. They mutter on their way to the government mandated low water toilet,(that doesn't flush the first time), that the Right Wing Nut Jobs are at it again.

In the Spirit and Audacity of Logic, let us examine in depth what could possibly create such sentiments and determine if the thinkers are indeed worthy of your disdain or if perhaps, they may actually know what they are talking about.

For the sake of brevity, for this post, I will concentrate on the logic behind the position of objecting to President Obama addressing the Nation's school children next week.

1. Protocol for an address of this nature is not being observed. Instead of going through the established channels the DOE went directly to school principals. Why?
2. The lesson plan published on the DOE initially had school children writing a letter to themselves on how they were going to help the President. That has since been retracted and spun in such a manner that the students will now write a letter to themselves about how they are going to achieve their own goals, but the hasty spin and retraction speak loudly to initial intent. Does it bother you that children are being recruited to help ANY President? What if it was George W Bush?
3. The President would not initially release the material of the address until pressured and will only now release the contents the day before. Why?
4. Teachers are encourage to print portions of the President's address in bold signs and hang them in the classroom - innocuous right? Not so, when you consider that the 15-18 year olds will be potential voters in the next Presidential election. Is High School an appropriate place to try and win voters?
5. Why address ALL the school children in America on their first day or school? Don't teachers and administrators have enough to do that first day without trying to gather all the children together for another speech by the President? What does this say about the priorities and character of the President?
6. Why not release it on the web and let parents watch it with their children? Why circumvent the parents in this process?

Regardless of your political beliefs and leanings, what do you disagree with on the above? If you do, which point and why?

There are a myriad of other reasons that parents may object to this based on their political beliefs, their concern over the direction of the country under this administration, and the narcissistic totalitarianism feel such a move brings to mind - but this blog is intended to move beyond political affiliations and look at the heart and the logic of the issues.

Further, I hope this blog can serve to unite us as "We the People". Only then can we begin to concentrate on the things that bind us together like love of country, family, freedom, and the pursuit of the American dream. By educating ourselves and engaging in critical thinking perhaps we can recognize opportunities and dangers to our Republic and our way of life before they have disappeared into the all consuming organism we now call the Federal Government.

is the sublimest word in the English language. - Robert E. Lee

Merriam-Webster defines sublime as follows:
1 a : lofty, grand, or exalted in thought, expression, or manner b : of outstanding spiritual, intellectual, or moral worth c : tending to inspire awe usually because of elevated quality (as of beauty, nobility, or grandeur) or transcendent excellence

Our duty to God, our brothers, and our country should not be taken lightly. We should hold ourselves accountable to the highest standard, and we should hold our representatives accountable to the same high standard. They cannot take their duty lightly.

The Honor Code

The honor code. A very simple thing. Most colleges have them. At The Citadel it was strictly enforced. Zero tolerance. If found guilty of an honor code violation, you were immediately expelled. No second chances.
A Cadet does not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do.
Honor is not only about your own actions, but also holding others who violate the code accountable. This should be added to the oath our elected officials take. It should be in lock step with the part about defending our Constitution from enemies both foreign and domestic. We could stand a little more honor in DC.
A US Congress member does not lie, cheat, or steal, nor tolerate those who do. How many of our current members would pass this muster.

Stick A Fork In Me, I'm Done...

When I was a young boy, my best friend and I were really into World War II and its history. We played army with our wooden guns, military board games, watched movies, built model airplanes and tanks, anything we could get our hands on. But the best game we ever played was to count out 50 plastic army men from the German bag and the US bag and set up battle lines in the sand box. We would position them very strategically for the ensuing battle. Then armed with BB guns, we would stand behind our respective forces and take turns shooting each others men. The first one to shoot all 50 of the enemy force won.

I had a bag full of US infantry men, my best friend had all the German infantry men. He was a good sport about being German most of the time, but no body wanted to be German all the time. Nothing against Germans, but you have to put this in the context of WWII. But as best friends, we always compromised. There was no middle ground on this issue. It was all give or take. You couldn't be 1/2 German and 1/2 US. You couldn't switch sides at half time. It was German against US, you against me, and sometimes me against you. And we still were able to compromise. And so we spent many a day in our childhood years recreating epic battles between the forces of good and evil.

And some things never change, except the BFF part, and the compromise, and the tolerance, and the civility, and the respect, and all the other things that made it work.

Health Care 2009. Or Cap and Trade, or any other label that they have tagged on anything going on in DC. I feel like I am 12 again. You can be German or US. There isn't any middle ground. It is me against you one way or the other. If you are German, I am the US or vice versa. Basically just replace German/US with Republican/Democrat. Don't make too much of the order, in this game they are all the same. Sworn enemies of each other. There is no middle ground. To the Democrats, the Republicans are the Germans and vice versa. Democrats claim to want to seek a bipartisan bill with health care. What they really mean is they want the Republicans to agree with them and give them what they want. The Republicans have made their proposals, contrary to all the Democratic and Liberal blogging and reporting, and that is what they plan to support. And Republican and Right Wing blogs and reporting are just as guilty as Democratic/Liberal blogs and reporting of creating a division as strong as that between the Allies and the Axis. They all believe there own bull shit. The other side is evil for doing this and that, but it is okay when we do it. Can these people really be so hypocritical?

What ever happened to tolerance? Joshua Liebman defined tolerance as the "positive and cordial effort to understand another's beliefs, practices, and habits without necessarily sharing or accepting them". Whatever happened to civility? Whatever happened to respect? Without these, there can be no compromise. But these far left/right 20% of the population don't want compromise. It is my way or the highway for them. And I think they define the party more than the members of the party define the party. Not all Democrats are bad, and not all Republicans are bad. Yes, every population will have the 20% fringe group, but the remaining 80% is generally good. And I believe that rule applies to America as well. I honestly believe that 80% of the population want Health Care reform that is somewhere in the middle of what is being fought over, but who is listening to what we the people want? Unfortunately, I think the 80/20 rule applies to Washington, DC conversely. I think they are 80% fringe/20% good. Are 80% of them listening? Not the Democrats, and likely not the Republicans. We just don't know as much about their position because the Democrats and much of the media don't pass it on since they are being made out to be obstructionist. Either way, in their infinite wisdom, they know what is best for us.

I am mostly conservative, while leaning moderate about some issues. Call me a Republican if you will, just be sure to leave your full name and address so I can come visit you to discuss this matter further if I am ever in your neighborhood. Maybe with a show of tolerance, civility, and respect we could find some common ground and try to tear down some walls that are the true obstructions.

But that is why I say stick a fork in me. I am done.
I am done with party affiliations.
I am done with the status quo. Washington, DC is status quo, period. Both Dems and Reps.
I am done with incumbents who do not defend the Constitution.
I am done with Democrats and Republicans.
I am done with lobbyist.
I am done with pork barrel and ear marks.
I am done with career politicians.
I am done with the elitist, our new found DC royalty (We fought against that a long time ago).
I am done with left wing nuts and right wing nuts.
I am done with the main stream media.
I am done with politicians who refuse to stop spending until we achieve a balanced budget.
I am done with "party rhetoric", get over it.
I am done with cry babies who take their ball and go home when they don't get their way.
I am done with believing that the government can do anything efficiently, without waste.
I am done with believing "bigger government" politicians really want what is best for me.
I am done with so much you'd be done with me if I listed it all here.
I am ALMOST done with believing that tolerance, civility, and respect will ever return to this country when and where it is needed to unite Americans during these important times so that we can make decisions that preserve our Constitution, preserve our freedoms, and preserve our republic. The way we are acting now, on both sides, it looks like Saul Alinsky will win.

God Bless the United States of America.
