Post Turtle

Something to lighten your day...and hopefully the following year.

While suturing up a cut on the hand of a 75 year old rancher, who's hand had been caught in the gate while working his cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to Obama, and his being our president.

The old rancher said, "Well, ya know, Obama is just a Post Turtle."

Now not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what the heck is a "post turtle?"

The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a post turtle."

The old rancher saw the puzzled look on the doctor's face so he continued to explain. "You know he didn't get up there by himself, he doesn't belong up there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, he sure as heck ain't going nowhere, and you just wonder what kind of dumb ass put him up there to begin with."

Scan 'em All. Let God Sort Them Out.

You know, at first I thought I was going to have to agree with the ACLU, in rejecting the use of the full body scanners, citing privacy issues. After all, why the hell should we give up our privacy, instead of forcing the government to institute some logical profiling to combat the threat of terrorism. The flying public has been inconvenienced at every step in the name of security, rather than - God forbid - inconveniencing the small target group of Middle Eastern men who end up actually being the terrorists.

However, after coming to the realization that using these full body scanning machines might actually keep radical Muslims from flying in the first place, I may have to rethink my position.

Think about this for a second:

No self respecting Jihadist is going to allow his body to be seen by an infidel, let alone a female infidel. They will never know who the TSA attendant is who is looking at their near naked image, as the viewer will be in a separate room, not in view by the person being scanned.

In addition, most Muslim men would never allow their wives, daughters or sisters to go through the scanner either, so that takes care of any female terrorists to boot.

Isaac Yeffet, former head of Israel's El-Al airlines, said Muslims would not stand for any widespread use of the device since it would, to some, represent a dishonor to women and their families.

"Realize that a Muslim will know that his wife was seen naked in this machine," Yeffet said. "You know what would be the reaction? ... Terrible."

Terrible? Boo-Hoo. What’s terrible is Americans having to give up freedom in exchange for security, or worse, being slaughtered by these fanatics. I say inconvenience and profile ALL Muslims who fly. Maybe, the non-fanatics in the bunch will start speaking up against the radical Jihadists in their religion, who make life miserable, and deadly, for us all.

Today's Angie Comics seems apropos:

Rush Limbaugh Hospitalized With Chest Pains

Associated Press
HONOLULU — Conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh was taken to a hospital after suffering chest pains and was resting comfortably Wednesday, his radio program said in a statement.

"Rush was admitted to and is resting comfortably in a Honolulu hospital today after suffering chest pains," the statement said. "Rush appreciates your prayers and well wishes and will keep you updated via and on his radio program."

Kit Carson, Limbaugh's chief of staff, said he had no further information on Limbaugh's condition.

He said the 58-year-old left for his usual Christmas vacation on Dec. 23 and is due to return to his show on Jan. 4. Carson didn't have any information on whether that schedule would change.

Limbaugh's three-hour weekday show is heard on some 600 radio stations across the country, and more than 14 million people listen to him at least once a week.

Honolulu television station KITV reported Wednesday that paramedics took Limbaugh to The Queens Medical Center in serious condition from the Kahala Hotel and Resort.

Limbaugh was seen golfing at Waialae Country Club — a country club next to the hotel — earlier this week, KITV said.

Americans said in a poll last month that Limbaugh was America's most influential conservative voice.

With his sarcastic putdowns of liberal policies, off-color parodies and bombastic self-promotion, he began capturing conservative listeners in the 1980s and grew to become the highest-rated radio broadcaster in the U.S. Recently, he's found a renewed purpose and has boosted ratings by railing against Barack Obama's presidency.

In 2001, Limbaugh reported he had lost most of his hearing due to an autoimmune inner-ear disease. He had surgery to have an electronic device placed in his skull to restore his hearing.

Two years later Limbaugh acknowledged he was addicted to pain medicine. He blamed the addiction on severe back pain, and took a five-week leave from his radio show to enter rehab.

Update: Having just returned from Honolulu on Monday, I contacted someone I met there, who works in the media, and it was reported to me that paramedics responded to a call at 2:41 p.m. HST, at the Kahala Hotel and Resort where Rush was staying, and found Limbaugh sitting in a chair in his ninth-floor hotel room, where upon he informed them that he had experienced chest pains.

Terrorism Can't Happen In My Backyard, Right?

Can't Happen In The United States Anymore Because The War on Terror Has Been Won

At least that was the opinion of 61% of Americans who were polled just a couple of weeks before the botched Christmas attack on a Northwest Airlines flight into Detroit. Short memories, or out of sight out of mind is the American rule of thumb for crisis management. At least that is what the bad guys count on.

September 11 occurred a very short time ago, particularly in the timeframe utilized by our patient enemy. While we view a year or two of no incidents as "proof" that the war on terror has been won, this is merely hibernation by an enemy for whom time has no meaning.

Reading the papers or watching the news from around the world and seeing the bombings or planned bombings that were fortunately thwarted, the average American views it as if it was all happening in another galaxy. As if by some divine right we will be immune to the irrational hatred that the jihadist holds for anyone who does not share their beliefs or way of life.

Unfortunately the outlet for this hatred is the senseless killing and mutilation of innocent men, women and children whose only crime was to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, anywhere in the world.

It's Not Just Afghanistan We Need To Worry About

While Afghanistan and countries in the Gulf have been the source for much of the army of terrorists, there are unfortunately other sources as well. There are countries like Nigeria, Somalia and Yemen that open up new fronts in the war on terror. Poor countries that are prime incubators for the young men who are radicalized by their religious leaders and taught the ways of jihad. The internet is another conduit through which those out of physical range can still be indoctrinated. Then we have what may pose one of the greatest threats of all, the homegrown terrorists from the United States and Britain who are radicalized within their own countries, perhaps trained somewhere else, but who face none of the border restrictions that one from some of the afore mentioned countries might face when trying to re-enter their countries.

The Actual Greatest Threat

Perhaps though, what was mentioned before may not be the greatest threat of all, at least here in the United States. We have a two-headed threat, neither of which is a direct creator of violence. But both very dangerous.

First, is the perceived, though in reality real, weakness that is portrayed by Barack Obama. Countries and groups feel as if they can act with impunity, because all indications to this point seem to say that they are right. George Bush was not liked around the world, and not liked by many at home because he was viewed as somewhat of a loose cannon. In other words, the potential for his threats being carried out were real and feared. He spoke what was on his mind, and that included a strong United States, and a safe United States. He did the job key to a President. Protection of our country and our people.

George Bush was certainly not the best orator, but for some reason he was able to make his point crystal clear. Screw with the United States, and you will pay. Barack Obama on the other hand, is a fantastic speaker. The problem is that no one can be certain what it is that he is actually saying, or what his intentions are. He is not a strong leader, and the world knows this all too well from situations like his procrastination for weeks and weeks on a troops decision in Afghanistan.

The second threat comes from inside the United States, and it comes from some individual citizens, some legislators as well as from groups like the ACLU. The entire populace needs to gain the mentality that it is us against them, and that the them does not play by any rules.

President Obama, in one of his speeches, said that if we fight on the level of the enemy, then we are no better than the enemy. The actual point is that if we fight along the lines of the Geneva Convention, while our enemy follows no rules, we will be destined to lose! The aversion to things like racial profiling, body scanning at the airports, wire taps or any surveillance techniques that may push the envelope needs to be replaced by the understanding that this is for our survival against an enemy that will not quit until they reach their goal. Our destruction.

Obama: Unlimited Funds For Freddie-Fannie.

While the rest of the nation stagnates and one out of five Americans is out of a job, President Obama, in the still of the night, approved UNLIMITED FUNDING for mortgage giants Fanny Mae and Freddy Mac. The two entities that are probably singularly most responsible for the crash of the sub-prime housing loan market.

Although they were successful in lining the pockets of many Democratic operatives along the way, in 2008 Fanny and Freddie exploded, taking Bear Stearns with them and leading to the failure of many other smaller entities, as we have seen. Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Christopher Dodd were all beholden to Fanny and Freddie for substantial contributions. The US government has bailed Fanny and Freddie out to the tune of ONE POINT FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS in direct and indirect aid. Those are TAXPAYER dollars, it should be noted.

What was going on was these two quasi-government backed Corporations, being major purchasers of SUB-PRIME mortgage paper, were BUNDLING these dubious assets and selling them as bonds. This precarious process worked as long as housing prices continued to rise. As early as 2003, regulators were warning of looming catastrophe “in the unlikely event that the two giants failed”.

Republican efforts to regulate Fanny and Freddie were defeated BY DEMOCRATS, IN PARTY-LINE VOTES. Since their failure in 2008, the two mortgage giants have consumed 1.1 trillion dollars in Fed backing and thus far this year have lost 124.4 billion dollars which has had to be picked up by the Federal Reserve.

Now the treasury has removed the 400 BILLION dollar cap on funding losses AT THE DIRECTION OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION, replacing it with an UNLIMITED FUNDING CAP! That’s like handing a chronic alcoholic a half gallon of booze and telling him to knock himself out.

THIS is Obama’s much vaunted fiscal responsibility?

Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac are headed down the same road as before and we have the SAME Democrats running interference for them. Wonder who they’ll blame it on this time?

Target: USA

I honestly hadn’t planned on doing any posting till after my return from Hawaii. However, sitting here this morning in my hotel room, in the same city where our dear leader is vacationing with his family on the island of Oahu, one day after what could have been the deadliest terrorist attack on American soil since Ft. Hood (yes friends, that was, and still is, a terrorist attack) and 9-11, I am utterly disgusted with this administration, and the idiots running it.

If anyone still believes that we haven’t been taken back in time to the day before 9-11, meaning that our posture, our policy, our intelligence gathering and our political attitude, hasn’t eroded back to that of a pre-9-11 mentality, then this should be your wake up call.

We have again become a target, simply because of the weak, namby-pamby leadership, or lack there-of, we have demonstrated to the world of terrorists out there waiting to kill us. It is no accident that the first three acts of terror committed against us since 9-11, happened within the first year of this President’s administration.

With these people’s insistence that we act as an appeasers, as apologists, as those who are more concerned with political correctness than the safety of its citizens, we demonstrate to these thugs, who are hell bent on killing us, that we are weak, that we have no resolve and that we shouldn’t be feared or respected.

The administration’s response? Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, during an interview on CNN, sought to reassure travelers saying, "The traveling public is very, very safe in this air environment," adding that "the system worked" to thwart a potential disaster."The whole process of making sure that we respond properly, correctly and effectively went very smoothly," she said.

Safe??? Smoothly??? I would hate to see what she would consider a rough or unsafe system! It was nothing more than pure dumb luck that we don’t have close to 300 bodies scattered over suburban Detroit right now.

Hey Janet! Wake the hell up! Get your head out of your rather large posterior and take a proactive stance, and start taking seriously the safety and security of the American public, with which you are vested to protect. The U.S. has been the target of terrorist attacks more than a dozen times this year, and in three cases attackers beat security checks -- in an attack on an Army recruiting office in Little Rock, Ark., in the Fort Hood shootings and on the Northwest flight.

If “tightening” security measures, by preventing passengers from leaving their seats during the last hour of international flights to the U.S. is your idea of providing “security,” you need to be fired, along with the people who put you in power. Do you really think making people stay in their seats the last hour of their flight is going to have any appreciable effect, other than inconveniencing passengers with weak bladders? Did you ever stop to consider the would-be terrorist would simply become active a little earlier in the flight?

How about we start doing what should have been done from day one; logical, non-politically correct profiling of the target group who are our sworn enemy. Instead of wasting time scrutinizing Caucasian grandmothers from Minnesota and infants in strollers, we start concentrating on Middle Eastern men between the ages of 18 and 45 who come from countries that pump out terrorists on a daily basis. May sound crazy, but I have a sneaking feeling you may be a tad more successful, and things would run a little more “smoothly”.

Climate change? Follow the Money...

Let me first say this; we should all recycle, we should all choose paper instead of plastic at the store, or take our own shopping bags, we should all reduce wasteful uses of water, we should all pick up liter when we see it on the street, we should all reduce pumping toxic chemicals into our environment.

Why? Because polluting our environment in the manner in which we do is akin to peeing in your bathtub and sitting in it. It's disgusting. For those of you that have never driven into Atlanta on a warm Summer day, let me tell you that there is a disgusting brown haze that sits over the city, and it truly makes for miserable days of breathing. Asthma cases are on a steep increase and we need to continue to search for cleaner ways to fuel our economic engine in the USA and around the world. Because, it is right to take care of God's creation and it is stupid to sit in a foul bathtub.

Now, let me say something about the global warming movement. Some evidence suggests that the world has actually cooled in the last 8 years. The whole "Climate Gate" scandal suggests that global warming supporting scientists have destroyed or at least suppressed evidence that contradicts what the global warming movement wants us to believe. Some scientists have gone on record as saying that our warming and cooling is pretty much controlled by the sun and sunspot activity. This is all interesting and the debate goes on.

What is most interesting is who is driving the Global Warming agenda and why?

The answer my friends can be defined by one word - Greed. And how do you discern the puppets from the puppet masters? You follow the money.

On the surface, one would think that Al Gore has perhaps profited most from his out front pitch man position in the movement. His fortune and net worth have grown exponentially since he left office. And his recent telling of half truths and pure fabrications in Denmark certainly marks him as a willing participant in all of this. He has in fact profited from the hiding of dissent and suppressing of evidence in contrast to his "Inconvenient Truth." The inconvenient truth for Mr. Gore is that he launched a company in 2004 called "Generation Investment Management." What does that company do? It runs mutual funds that invest in companies poised to profit by global government climate legislation. They are reportedly a large holder in a company called Hara Software. Hara Software produces products that will essentially enable companies to comply with and take advantage of climate legislation such as the Cap and Trade (Tax) legislation being considered in Washington. Great stuff by the way, you can pollute as much as you want, as long as you pay to do so. What incentive does that give a company to produce environmental positive new technologies? NONE! But, I digress.

Al Gore is profiting greatly from companies that are producing goods and services in response to the fear mongering speeches and books Mr. Gore is pushing on the global agenda. Seems kind of like letting Osama Bin Laden help establish new TSA airport security policies. Talk about letting the fox guard the hen house, Indeed!

Even Jesse Venture, an old friend of Mr. Gore's, recently had his eyes opened to all of this on Jesse's new TV show on the TRU TV network.

Even more scary than Al Gore, who is in reality still a bit of a puppet in all of this, is a guy named Maurice Strong. Do some research on this guy. He rose from a low level at the UN back in the 50's to be one of the UN's main environmental policy guys. All the while, this guy was dealing in the oil and energy business in Canada and eventually became by many reports a billionaire many times over. He is the self proclaimed "Worlds Leading Environmentalist," but he is no longer directly associated with the UN as in 2005 he reportedly cashed a check made out to him for over $988, 000 and directly related to the Oil for Food scandal. Since the scandal broke Mr. Strong has lived in a high security building in Beijing, China. Beijing - one of the most polluted cities in the world. This guy is likely one of the main puppet masters in all of this.

Clean up and take care of our environment, stop peeing in our bathtub, but do not tell me that this is a legitimate movement when it is being driven by a handful of greedy corrupt hypocrites driving a global agenda that will do the greatest harm to the least amongst us.

"C'lie'mate Change"

The truth is that it has nothing to do with "saving the planet". It is all a red herring. Its all about instilling fear based on junk science to:

1. Raise/introduce taxes
2. Hinder the U.S. advancement as a world power
3. Basic anti-Americanism (because "its all our fault")
4. Gov't regulations to make it impossible for small business to thrive (and tax the hell out of big business).
5. And the inception of a new "religion" for libs to grow their ranks.

Because remember, none of this is based on real, indisputable fact, just like every liberal talking point. Even if there was one, science is not based on "consensus"; it either is or is not. It sickens me how they prey on people's good nature with the whole green movement, when the fact is they are just growing a base that will unwittingly back them when they try to pass such economically destructive legislation like Cap & Trade. It is a basic "war on prosperity" tactic. So now they can take more from the undeserving "haves" and spread it around to the "have nots". Only now it'll be legal, but all together unsustainable.

After quadrupling our national debt, why would any thinking person believe that the liberal lie of "climate change" has the best interest of the future of our children or planet in mind. One would not even need science to cast more then a shadow of a doubt on liberal claims of global warming, even though there is plenty. Common sense and a tiny bit of research works just fine.

1. We have only been keeping weather records for little over 100 years. So divide 105 or even 150 by 4.5 billion and you'll get a percentage of how long we have be keeping records to how long the earth has been around.
2. We have 5 times the number of man-eating polar bears in the arctic then there were in the year 2000. I love how they always show one bear swimming (alone) as if the ice has melted under its feet, and it had no choice but to negotiate the icy waters. Notice they never show said polar bear drowning.
3. How about that frequency of hurricanes? Florida hasn't had a "hurricane season" in 4 years.
4. If one needs more evidence on the common sense side of refuting claims of global warming, just look at the high priest himself, Al Gore.

This is a man whose Nashville home uses $1200 a month of electricity. Granted, he and Tipper need a 10,000 sq. ft. home that uses 15,600 kilowatt hours per year, but don't you think if you wanna talk the talk, you should walk the walk. Only until this fact came under scrutiny did he get his pointless solar panels. One would wonder where his priorities are. Are they with protecting the planet, or the fact that Al was worth around $2 million in 2000, as opposed to (thanks to his new religion) being worth around $20 million today? I guess the Academy award is just as meaningless as the Nobel Peace prize.

As far as the scientific part goes, the factual misalignment of CO2 gasses can be attributed largely to the junk science of the left leaning, green flavored, Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Next time you are in a book store, read Mark Levins chapter on "Enviro-Statism" in his book Liberty & Tyranny, especially pgs. 132-139. He says it better then I ever could, and definitely lets those pesky facts get in the way while exposing how that group collects its data.

So, no my friend, we don't need to do anything on this matter except silence these proponents and this baseless, fabricated, distracting facet of the liberal ideology that seeks nothing more then to incrementally dismantle our "civil society" through taxes, regulations, guilt, and control.

Oh The Irony!

While watching the arrival of President Obama this morning in Copenhagen, for the Global Warming Summit, something struck me as kind of odd. It looked awfully cold, windy and snowy. I checked the weather in Copenhagen and it seems they are having a bit of a snowstorm that has caused some traffic jams and delays and such. Wow, the irony of it all, huh? Maybe they should have held the summit in the summer time. Better marketing, don't you know.

Someone Who Gets It

Here, finally, is a viable candidate. Somone one who understands what it is all about. I say after sending him to Congress, from the state of Florida in 2010, we then send him to the White House in 2012.

Below is the video that Hannity refers to, courtesy of Channe1Images.

Political Blackmail at the Expense of National Security

While the Democrats appease Senator Lieberman, they still have to worry about other recalcitrant Democrats including Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson. Though Lieberman has been out front in the fight against the public option and the Medicare buy-in, Nelson was critical of both. Now that those provisions appear to have been stripped from the bill, Lieberman may get on board, but Nelson's demand that taxpayer money not be used to fund abortion has still not been met. According to a Senate aide, it is being reported the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn't fall into line. If true, this is almost criminal.

Keep in mind Offutt Air Force Base is the headquarters for US Strategic Command, one of the most important bases in the United States. But, who cares about national security when ruining America's health care system is on the agenda?

Offutt Air Force Base employs some 10,000 military and federal employees in Southeastern Nebraska. As one source put it, this is a "naked effort by Rahm Emanuel and the White House to extort Nelson's vote." They are "threatening to close a base vital to national security for what?" asked the Senate staffer.

As the headquarters for US Strategic Command, the successor to Strategic Air Command, Offutt was not placed there by accident. STRATCOM was located in the middle of the country for strategic reasons. Its closure would be a massive blow to the economy of the state of Nebraska, but it would also be another example of this administration playing politics with our national security.

If I were Senator Nelson, I would call The White House's bluff. Personally, I don't think Obama has the stones to follow through with the threat. If you live in Nebraska (and even if you don't), call Nelson and tell him, if this is true, to stand his ground.

Tell the EPA to Take a Flying Leap!

Tell the EPA CO2 is not a pollutant. Tell them it's what makes the Earth thrive. Tell them without it, we wouldn't have plants and trees, and without plants and trees we wouldn't have most of the species that inhabit this planet. Tell the EPA to go back and take elementary school science.

If Man Made Global Warming is True....

If Man Made Global Warming is true and it is caused by Co2 emissions in the atmosphere from industrialization, which decade was warmer the 1930's or the 1940's?

Let's think - the 1930's were the Great Depression - lot's of government spending - huge debts - no jobs or industry.  Not a whole lot going on in the industrialized world.

Fast forward to the 1940's - massive industrialization to boost the war effort, pollution, bombing, nuclear explosions, post war boom, cars, factories and explosion in Co2 emissions.

The current "consensus" says that the 1940's should be much hotter than the 30's, but the exact opposite is true.  The 1930's were markedly hotter.  As a matter of fact in the post war 1940-1980 the earth cooled, so much so that the scientists proclaimed a new "Ice Age".

I am no climate scientist, but whenever I see inverse correlations, I begin to doubt the conclusions of scientists that disregard the facts.

A Real Story

The below is a note from a friend, it is basically his adult life story.  I challenge you to read this and put yourself in this family's place.  It is indeed a tale of woe and at the end of the day, we are all one or two steps away from where this family is today.  I can't do anything about the thousands of hurting families in the USA today, but I can do something about one.  For details on how you can help, go to the end of the article.

My name is Jeff and until a couple of years ago I was living the American Dream. When I was about 30 I found my vocation in computers. I worked for 7+ years for Tandy / Radio Shack as a Computer salesman and later as a Systems Engineer. I worked hard and had an aptitude for the industry. Without taking classes or training I taught myself how to connect things. When I say connect things I mean in a physical sense as in wiring and cabling and also using software. I became fascinated with computer Operating Systems and Networking. Over the years I learned how to make dissimilar systems communicate. I became a Certified NetWare Engineer. This is a Novell professional certification.

After 7 years things began to change in the industry. It was clear that Tandy would be much less involved. Tandy would continue only at the consumer retail level in the computer industry. Around this time I met my future wife Beth. She and I married in 1992 and later that year had our first child Spencer. At the time she was still working full time for a local accounting firm. While she was pregnant with Spencer the owner of the accounting firm died. The business was sold and she maintained her position. When Spencer was about 3 months old we were putting him in a local day care and she would come to see him at lunch every day because he was still nursing at the time. She wanted to maintain that contact with him rather than having strangers give him formula.

Around the time Spencer turned 6 months old I was hired by Microsoft. I started in 1993 as a Word for Windows Support Professional making around $23,000.00 per year. It was actually a pay cut but seemed to have more future than my position at Tandy. About 2 weeks after starting at Microsoft Spencer became ill. Nothing too serious but he ran a fever for 4 or 5 days. Since he was running a fever he couldn’t go to day care. Beth stayed home with him for the entire week. I was in training at Microsoft and we felt me missing work just wasn’t an option. On Friday of that week her boss called and left a message on our answering machine that he was letting her go because she had stayed home the entire week with Spencer. About a week later we found out she was pregnant again. We made a decision then that we would tighten our belts and work hard dedicating everything to our family and my career. We would become a single income family. She would manage the home and I would work hard and do everything I could to be successful at Microsoft. We were a team.

On November 16th 1993 Jonathan was born. He wasn’t very healthy early on. He contracted Spinal Meningitis and spent over a week in the hospital. I would work all day while Beth stayed with him in the Hospital. Our parents would keep Spencer during the day. When I left work I’d go to the Hospital and stay with Jonathan. Beth would go home to be with Spencer. The next morning she’d relieve me. I’d go home – take a quick shower – and go to work. Jonathan finally got out of the Hospital on Christmas Eve that year.

As time went on things began to improve. I was building a good foundation at Microsoft. I loved my job and was totally dedicated to the company. I was VERY proud when I had an opportunity to tell someone I worked at Microsoft. It was a point of pride for me since I didn’t have a college degree. I had worked hard and developed my skills through experience. The old American Hard Work ethic seemed to be paying off for us. In 1996 my daughter Molly was born. We discovered Spencer had Epilepsy but were working hard with a Neurologist to keep his seizures under control. Overall we were a very happy family. We’d purchased our first house and I had made huge strides at Microsoft. My responsibilities increased. I wrote and delivered training and acted as a mentor to other Support Professionals. I became someone management looked to as a leader. And I was compensated quite well. My base salary increased regularly. With incentives and bonuses I was easily making a six figure salary. Beth and I paid off all debt except our mortgage. We paid our mortgage faithfully and in fact paid down on the principal with extra money sent in with each payment. In 2001 we found out Beth was pregnant again. This was an unplanned pregnancy but we considered it a blessing.

In May of 2001 we took a short trip to the beach. When we returned Beth and I went to a doctor’s appointment. Beth’s blood pressure was dangerously high. She had Pre-Eclampsia. The doctor hospitalized her that day in Gaston Memorial. My aunt was also in Gaston Memorial dying of Cancer. I would spend time with Beth and then go by to see my Aunt Nancy. Our parents helped out with the other kids quite a bit. Beth was kept in Gaston Memorial for 3 days. She was then moved to Carolinas Medical. It had become clear that she would not go full term and they wanted to try to build up the lungs of our unborn child anticipating an emergency C Section.

On June 7th my Aunt Nancy died. I came back to Gastonia from the hospital on June 8th and went to the visitation for her at the funeral home. I picked up my 3 children from my parents house to go home to try to get a little rest. Beth had now been in the hospital for about 7 days. I was exhausted. At the corner stop light with my children in the car I was hit by another car from behind. It was a minor accident but just seemed to add to the emotion. The next morning at about 4am the hospital called me to tell me they needed me to come back to the hospital. They were going to do an emergency C section. I took the children to stay with Beth’s parents and drove to CMH. When I got there I ran to the elevator. The doors closed and it moved up about 3 floors before stopping. I was trapped in the elevator with several other people. I was in a bit of a panic. We used the elevator phone to let maintenance know. I explained my situation to my fellow captives and maintenance. Thankfully we were only trapped for a few minutes.

Shortly after I arrived Beth was taken in for the emergency C section. I was in the room when our daughter Evie was born. She weighed 1lb 7oz’s and was 3 months early. She was so small her cry sounded like a kitten meow and my wedding band fit on her wrist like a loose bracelet. She was taken to Neonatal Intensive Care and Beth was kept in ICU for a while. I was moving between Beth and Evie for days. Sometimes I’d push Beth down in a wheel chair so she could see Evie. Beth had to stay in the hospital for a few more days. I’d go home every evening and take care of the other 3 kids. Then I’d leave them with our parents and go visit with Beth and Evie. After 10 days in the hospital Beth was allowed to come home. We still lived in Gastonia and Evie was in the NICU in CMC. Every day Beth would go to CMC to be with Evie while I took care of the children. I was allowed to take 4 weeks paternity leave from Microsoft. I would stay with the other 3 kids and try to keep their routine as normal as possible. Beth would come home and I would go over and spend a couple of hours in the NICU with Evie. This went on for a month. In July Gaston Memorial Hospital opened a NICU. We moved Evie to GMH and things got a lot easier. I had to go back to work but luckily our strong family support helped us get through another month of Evie in the hospital. When she came home she was a little over 3lbs. We had to buy baby doll cloths since she was so small no infant clothes would fit her.

While Beth and Evie were in the hospital in Charlotte we were told Evie would probably require a transfusion. I was told I could do a directed blood donation through the Red Cross in anticipation of this so they could use my blood. I went to the Red Cross and went through the process of a directed blood donation. When time came for Evie to have a transfusion we were told the Red Cross had found something in my blood called a Warm Antibody. This made my blood dangerous for anyone to receive so it was discarded.

When Evie came home it became apparent we would have to consider a bigger house. We had a comfortable 3 bedroom home but now had 4 children.

I started to have health problems during this time. I was having trouble breathing . We found I had Interstitial Lung Disease. I have approximately 50% of normal lung capacity. This was determined by doing an open lung biopsy. I was out of work for 6 weeks. However I used vacation and sick time and we didn’t miss ANY payments or bills during this period. I also had something called a Pseudo Tumor on the lateral muscle of my left eye. After 2 biopsies and massive steroid treatments I received radiation therapy. The radiation therapy was successful but did cause cataracts which I still have. Once again…we missed no payments and paid all bills on time.

In August of 2002 we found a new home. We made a 20% down payment and moved in. The house was $300,000.00 – definitely within our means. I actually maintained mortgage payments on both houses for a year before our old house sold. We never missed a payment and were never late.

As a bit of a background on what was to happen…when I started making a 6 figure salary we started having problems with the IRS. We’d send in our tax returns and the IRS would have us redo them for various reasons. They would claim we had put a wrong Social Security number for one of the children or some other minor issue. When we’d ask to see them they would never allow that. Our copies showed correct information every time. Or we’d have to wait months to get refunds. One year we received a letter from the IRS which said…”We have a record of having received you tax return but we can’t find it. You will have to re-file it.” This letter came months after we had sent in our return.

All of this culminated in 2005 with our having to re-file 5 years worth of Federal and State tax returns. During this time the Federal Government AND State of North Carolina garnished my wages. In order to stay afloat we were required to take out a second mortgage on our house. After all was said and done the Federal Government owed US money. We were paid some but around $30,000.00 of refunds we were told were past the time we could claim them so we’d have to sue the government to get the money. Well by this time we were financially destroyed and couldn’t afford an attorney to pursue the matter. We were behind on our mortgage and it was all we could do to simply try to get back on our feet. Beth – ironically – went back to work on a part time basis yearly as a tax preparer for H&R Block. I threw myself into my job anew. We worked with the Mortgage companies and were able to get back in good standing before foreclosure.

Around this time my mother’s health (Ann) had started deteriorating. Over the next 2 years my father (James) was a champion. He took care of my mother through one hospital stay after another. They were both retired but my dad worked as a Reporter / Sports Editor for the Banner News in Belmont, NC. He was well known in this area. He was especially well liked by the kids who had played Middle School and High School sports. He took great pleasure in giving them the spotlight. He loved kids. Mom had COPD, Diabetes and Heart Disease. Eventually in September 2007 she passed away at the age of 72 in GMH. She was the anchor for our family and it destroyed my father.

Daddy ended up having to take a small loan out on his paid off home to pay for her funeral expenses. He went back to work as the Sports Editor for the Banner News. Daddy was now 71 and still covering all the local Belmont and Mt Holly school sports. He was also the Chairman of the Board for the Carolinas Boxing Hall Of Fame. Every day on the way to work I’d call him and talk while I drove.

By this time I’d had a wonderful 15 years at Microsoft. My base pay was just over $100,000.00. I was a Technical Account Manager. I managed the support relationship for several of Microsoft’s customers. I had been very successful and in fact had received letters from virtual team members explaining how my work had improved customer relationships and business. In one case I was flown to Germany to assist with a customer in a difficult worldwide implementation of a critical piece of Microsoft software. In the end I was commended by the Global Business Manager and said to have salvaged a multi-million dollar deal.

On October 13th, 2008 my boss sent me an email and told me he wanted to meet with me that day at 3pm. His office was in Connecticut and he had flown down to take care of other business and said he wanted to have our one on one meeting in person instead of over the phone. I went into the meeting and was told that my position was being moved to Boston. This was a business decision and I was being laid off. I was given a severance package and put out the door. After 15 years of doing a job I loved and working for I company I loved I was being tossed aside. It was a business decision.

Just after this is when my health began to truly collapse. In November 2008 I contracted Pneumonia, Bronchitis and Pleurisy and spent a week in the hospital. On December 8th, 2008 my dad had a heart attack and died at the age of 72. I am the executor of my father’s estate. He was an amazing man but in the end they had spent most of their savings on health care. Still…we struggled on. Since Beth, Spencer and I have health issues we have maintained my Microsoft Health Insurance. Until the government COBRA assistance kicked in we paid $1,525.00 per month to maintain the Microsoft Health benefits. Since the government subsidy we have been paying $537.25 per month. In January it will go up to over $1,700.00 per month due since the subsidy will end and Microsoft is increasing the monthly CBRA payment by over $200 per month. I had been unable to find a fulltime job with full benefits. I had been doing consulting and contracting jobs. The most I have been able to make has been $1,000.00 in a single week.

In August I contracted Double Pneumonia. By the time I got to the hospital my Blood Oxygen level was 32%. From August 8th to August 12th – my 49th birthday – I was on a ventilator. The hospital stay lasted a week. Since coming out of the hospital I have continued to have health problems.

In September I found out I was severely Anemic. I had an additional hospital stay in September to receive 3 units of blood. The Warm Antibody found 8 years ago is related to a disorder called Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia.

On November 2nd, 2009 I had to return to the hospital with Double Pneumonia. I was there for 12 days. Since going to the hospital that morning I have been on oxygen 24x7 continuously. I am no longer able to work. Due to the amount of oxygen I need I have to take roll around tanks with me when I leave the house. Each tank lasts approximately 2 hours.

Beth has been trying to find a job over the last year. But having been out of the workforce for over 16 years other than her seasonal tax job has made it very difficult to find anything. The severance is gone. The small inheritance is gone.

On November 17th our home was auctioned and purchased by Freddie Mac. I have been visited twice by representatives from Freddie Mac to see when we will leave our home or if we would like to try to stay. I’ve informed them we have no income and are struggling just to keep the utilities on. We’re waiting to see what they are going to do.

All my life I have believed in the American Dream and the strong work ethic that made this country the greatest country in the world. Since the age of 28 I have had 2 jobs where I spent 20+ years combined and learned a trade from the ground up. I STILL believe in a strong work ethic and the ideals and dreams that made our country great. Many of my friends have wanted to know about my situation. At present this is it…

I have the following illnesses:

Interstitial Pneumonitis
Idiopathic Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia
Sleep Apnea
Type II Diabetes

I am unable to work. I’ve filed for unemployment AND Disability. Since I am unable to work I cannot receive unemployment. We are a few hundred dollars over the limit to receive immediate assistance through SSI and Medicaid. I am continuing to answer questions and fill out paperwork to see if I qualify for permanent disability. If I qualify this process can take as long as 4 months. If I’m turned down on the first attempt I have no idea how long the appeals will last.

For the last month my family has been living off the charity of others. We’ve received financial assistance from my sister and Beth’s parents. We’ve also had help from local churches. We are thankful for the assistance and prayers.

As of 12-14-2009 the following bills are due or past due:

City of Gastonia - $425.99
Time Warner (Telephone service is bundled with this) - $363.00 Overdue for 2+ months.
PSNC Energy - $120.52
Merastar Auto Insurance - $416.50
Health Insurance COBRA - $537.25
Budget Storage - $125.00

We have four children - Spencer 17, Jonathan 16, Molly 13 & Evie 8.

We have ZERO income.

The Inconvenience of Truth Cuts Both Ways

Some of my friends will tell you, quite begrudgingly, that one of my favorite sayings is “Life is a double-edged sword.” It looks like Vice President Al Gore has learned this lesson the hard way.

Gore learned that “An Inconvenient Truth” can cut both ways, as the Oscar-winning, titular head of the global warming scam crowd found out while speaking in Copenhagen just the other day.

While attending the climate change summit, Gore postulated that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

Gore told the conference: "These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr. [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 percent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years."

However, the scientist who Gore was relying on for the data, blasted the former V.P. with an icy wind saying: "It's unclear to me how this figure was arrived at... I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this."

Forced to admit that the 75 percent figure he used was nothing more than a “ballpark figure” supposedly used in a conversation he had with Dr. Maslowski several years ago, the embarrassed Gore was in spin mode all the rest of the day, trying to back-pedal on his statement.

Coming on the heels of the latest figures, which shows his new book, Our Choice, has sold only 40,000 copies (On the other hand, Sarah Palin’s book Going Rouge was a best seller before it hit the stands, with over 1 million copies sold), there is serious doubt that the public finds Gore’s opinions very credible.

Coupled with facts now emerging from the hacked emails, showing that global warming groups manipulated data to bolster their argument that says climate change is man-made, this whole global warming conspiracy, which is nothing more than the latest power and money grab, is starting to come apart like a cheap suit.

Stay tuned, sports fans…

One Power Grab After Another

It is becoming increasingly apparent that this administration is hell bent on superseding the Constitution and Congress, at every turn, and in every circumstance it can, to solidify a power base that grows government and ensures command and control over the citizens of this country, making it one of the most power hungry administrations in a long time.

From FOX News:

Upwards of 40 percent of all land in the United States is already under some form of government control or ownership -- 800 million to 900 million acres out of America's total 2.2 billion acres.

The government now appears poised to wield greater control over private property on a number of fronts. The battle over private property rights has intensified since 2005, when the Supreme Court ruled in the Kelo v. City of New London case that the government could take property from one group of private landowners and give it to another.

The Clean Water Restoration Act currently pending in the U.S. Senate could reach to control even a "seasonal puddle" on private property.

Eleven senators and 17 representatives in the U.S. House have sent a letter to Majority Leader Harry Reid and Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasting the measure as one of the boldest property grab attempts of all time.

This bill is described by opponents as a sweeping overhaul of the Clean Water Act that could threaten both physical land and jobs by wiping out some farmers entirely.

"Right now, the law says that the Environmental Protection Agency is in charge of all navigable water," said Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., chairman of the Senate Western Caucus and an opponent of the bill.

"Well, this bill removes the word 'navigable,' so for ranchers and farmers who have mud puddles, prairie potholes -- anything from snow melting on their land -- all of that water will now come under the regulation of the Army Corps of Engineers and the Environmental Protection Agency," he said.

Barrasso said the federal government's one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work in the west where the Rocky Mountain states have gone even further than Washington to protect land, water and the environment.

"The government wants control of all water -- that also means that they want control over all of our land including the private property rights of people from the Rocky Mountain west, the western caucus and the entire United States," he said

Be very afraid.

Happy Bill of Rights Day!

I've never heard of this before now, but I love the idea of celebrating the constitution. So I present to you a message from Wes Benedict Executive Director of the Libertarian National Committee.

Dear Friend of Liberty,

Tomorrow, December 15, is Bill of Rights Day. I don't know how much we'll hear about it in the media, but you and I know how important the Bill of Rights is. The Founders recognized that it was important to be specific about what government must not do. The Libertarian Party platform expresses support for the Bill of Rights in many places. For example:

First Amendment:
"We support full freedom of expression and oppose government censorship, regulation or control of communications media and technology. We favor the freedom to engage in or abstain from any religious activities that do not violate the rights of others. We oppose government actions which either aid or attack any religion." (1.1)

Second Amendment:
"We affirm the right to keep and bear arms, and oppose the prosecution of individuals for exercising their rights of self-defense. We oppose all laws at any level of government requiring registration of, or restricting, the ownership, manufacture, or transfer or sale of firearms or ammunition." (1.6)

Fourth Amendment:
"We support the protections provided by the Fourth Amendment to be secure in our persons, homes, and property." (1.2)

Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Amendments:
"We oppose reduction of constitutional safeguards of the rights of the criminally accused. The rights of due process, a speedy trial, legal counsel, trial by jury, and the legal presumption of innocence until proven guilty, must not be denied." (1.5)

Of course, one of the most serious problems America faces today is that the federal government completely ignores the Tenth Amendment, which says the federal government only has the limited powers granted by the Constitution, and no other powers. Unfortunately, our federal government has usurped a long list of powers that are not granted by the Constitution -- far too many to list in this email.

The Democratic and Republican parties, and their politicians, have very little respect for the Bill of Rights. The Bush and Obama administrations have been especially destructive, not only continuing the expansion of federal power far beyond what is allowed by the Tenth Amendment, but also trampling on due process, privacy protections, and free speech.

Most Americans admire the Bill of Rights, but I think many of them are unaware how much our government violates them... we also need to convince Americans to demand that the government must get back inside the limits of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Wes Benedict
Executive Director
Libertarian National Committee

I don't always agree with the platform of the Libertarian Party, but Wes Benedict hits some good high points on the Bill of Rights. I would take a step further and push harder on the 10th Amendment as it relates to States Rights, which Washington has a record of stomping all over going back to President Lincoln.

Audacity of Logic Grows

Being one of the 10+% club, I find my time is greatly consumed with trying to make ends meet and cover bills.  So much so that I do not visit my beloved "baby blog" as much as I would like.  But I see that in my absense it is being taken good care of by capable hands.  The baby has grown.  It has grown in following and content and I believe our founding fathers would be proud.  Proud to know that there are many who still believe in this country and what our Constitution stands for, and are willing to unite to work towards making  us a greater nation.  Thank you ladies and gentlemen for all the hard work and effort.  I "hope" that "change" will soon come my way and I will be in a better place to contribute more often.  Until then, keep the torch lit and carry it high.  God Bless you all.

The White Houese Must be Grading on a Curve

It was reported today that President Obama has given himself, "a good solid B-plus," grade for his first year in office. I can't be the only one who has surmised he must be grading himself on some weird curve, am I?

His first year in office has been rife with a series of abject failures, half-starts, indecision and downright incompetence. About the only things he has been successful at is spending money we don't have, pissing off the American public, trying to silence his adversaries in the media (FOX News) and bringing us back to a pre 9-11 mentality, leaving us as vulnerable as we were on 9-10-01. Either this guy is actually delusional, or he really thinks we all are as dumb as he proably thinks we are, for us to beleive this latest fairly-tail.

As summed up by writer Adam Sparks, the list of some of his monumental screw ups is noted as follows:

The Obama administration burst onto the presidency with a historic wealth of good will, hope, and change. It is now marked by one failure after another. Unfortunately, these failures are not without costs. The burden is borne by consumers, taxpayers, and generations yet to come. Nearly one year after Obama's inauguration, we have an economy heading in the wrong direction, unemployment rising, a deficit that will double, banks failing, a war command which is virtually ignored, 9/11 terrorists given Constitutional rights at a civil trial, and an administration hell-bent on destroying -- not "reforming" -- the world's best health care system. Not a bad turnout for an experienced community organizer.

1) Bank Bailout. The banks were bailed out to the tune of trillions of dollars with no oversight. The result: Banks continue to fail all over the country and lenders are not making any commercial loans, causing more business failures. Obama's score? Fail.

2) Auto Bailout. GM was given billions of dollars, and the government hand-picked its board of directors. Result: GM is still losing billions. A simple bankruptcy would have allowed GM to emerge with leveled books, without the need to have invested a single dime of taxpayer money. Fail.

3) Cap and Tax. This boondoggle is more commonly known by the misleading name "cap-and-trade." This scheme caps all CO2 emissions at a level 83% below the current level and punitively taxes any additional emissions. Even the left-leaning Brookings Institute predicted dramatic job losses, particularly in certain energy industries, of between 35%-40% as soon as 2025. I'm guessing this legislation was the brainchild of China, as there is no better way to encourage the few American manufacturers we still have in this country to pack up and manufacture overseas.

This discourages manufacturers from expanding their companies...not a great idea in the midst of a global recession. This will not only be a jobs-killer, it will force a huge tax on the consumers, who will have this tax burden passed on to them via higher costs. Trucking, flights, gas, electric, and everything else that is moved or manufactured will go up in price. Obama fail.

4) Health Care Reform. According to a Kaiser Foundation study, 89% of Americans are very satisfied with their current insurance plan. Creating a government-subsidized plan to compete with private insurers is not competition at all. It will destroy private insurers until only the taxpayer-subsidized government option is left standing. We all know how successful other government-run programs are: Social Security (failing), Medicare (failing), post office (failing), Fannie Mae (failing), GM (failing), bank bailout plan (failing), and creating more jobs after trillions in "stimulus" (failing). Even the Obama-touted but poorly planned Cash for Clunkers unexpectedly ran out of money in the first week.

Obama said he would veto any health care reform bill which added to the deficit, yet he believes the bill that's working its way through Congress will insure an extra 40 million people without a loss in quality or increase in costs. Was I the only one who saw The Wizard of Oz and the fraudulent wizard behind the curtain? "Nothing to see here." How exactly does costs for insuring an extra 40 million people not equal costs to the taxpayers? Of course they will. The bureaucrats will just juggle their books and pass the added costs to both the states, by getting them to cover the cuts in Medicare, and directly to taxpayers (particularly to the younger Obama-supporters) through new mandates.

Moreover, forcing insurance companies to take anyone with any preexisting condition sounds pleasantly populist, but what if you bought your car insurance only after you had an accident? How long will insurance companies stay in business? They won't stay in business at all, and that's where we have another "government rescue"...and another fail. Connect the dots on all of Obama's other big successes.

5) Global Warming. Anthropogenic CO2 makes up about 3.2% of greenhouse gases. New Zealand atmospheric scientist Augie Auer wrote that three-quarters of the earth is ocean, and 95 percent of the greenhouse effect is governed by water vapor.

Of that remaining 5 percent, only about 3.6 percent is governed by CO2 and when you break it down even further, studies have shown that the anthropogenic (man-made) contribution to CO2 versus the natural is about 3.2 percent.

So if you multiply the total contribution 3.6% by the man-made portion of it, 3.2%, you find out that the anthropogenic contribution of CO2 to the global greenhouse effect is 0.115 percent ... that's like .12 cents in $100. It's minuscule ... it's nothing.

Finally, the Obama administration would like to sacrifice business growth, at an astronomical cost to both the taxpayer and the consumer, while slowing down our economy further, in order to reduce our carbon emissions by 20%. But it's not a total waste; he will be satisfying his left-wing base. Assuming the entire world cooperates with Obama's plan -- which it won't -- this initiative will have a negligible effect on global warming. Another Obama fail.

Making Sense of it All

I'd like to thank George for the previous post, highlighting the report, "The Global Warming Review," and would like to post some pertinent excerpts from it, along with its conclusions, which I find both to be highly illuminating.

From the Review:

A review of the research literature concerning the environmental consequences of increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide leads to the conclusion that increases during the 20th and early 21st centuries have produced no deleterious effects upon Earth's weather and climate. Increased carbon dioxide has, however, markedly increased plant growth. Predictions of harmful climatic effects due to future increases in hydrocarbon use and minor greenhouse gases like CO2 do not conform to current experimental knowledge. The environmental effects of rapid expansion of the nuclear and hydrocarbon energy industries are discussed.

In 1957, Revelle and Seuss (69) estimated that temperature-caused out-gassing of ocean CO2 would increase atmospheric CO2 by about 7% per °C temperature rise. The reported change during the seven interglacials of the 650,000-year ice core record is about 5% per °C (63), which agrees with the out-gassing calculation.

Between 1900 and 2006, Antarctic CO2 increased 30% per 0.1 °C temperature change (72), and world CO2 increased 30% per 0.5 °C. In addition to ocean out-gassing, CO2 from human use of hydrocarbons is a new source. Neither this new source nor the older natural CO2 sources are causing atmospheric temperature to change.

The hypothesis that the CO2 rise during the interglacials caused the temperature to rise requires an increase of about 6 °C per 30% rise in CO2 as seen in the ice core record. If this hypothesis were correct, Earth temperatures would have risen about 6 °C between 1900 and 2006, rather than the rise of between 0.1 °C and 0.5 °C, which actually occurred.

The 650,000-year ice-core record does not, therefore, agree with the hypothesis of "human-caused global warming," and, in fact, provides empirical evidence that invalidates this hypothesis.

There are no experimental data to support the hypothesis that increases in human hydrocarbon use or in atmospheric carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are causing or can be expected to cause unfavorable changes in global temperatures, weather, or landscape. There is no reason to limit human production of CO2, CH4, and other minor greenhouse gases as has been proposed (82,83,97,123).

We also need not worry about environmental calamities even if the current natural warming trend continues. The Earth has been much warmer during the past 3,000 years without catastrophic effects. Warmer weather extends growing seasons and generally improves the habitability of colder regions.

As coal, oil, and natural gas are used to feed and lift from poverty vast numbers of people across the globe, more CO2 will be released into the atmosphere. This will help to maintain and improve the health, longevity, prosperity, and productivity of all people.

The United States and other countries need to produce more energy, not less. The most practical, economical, and environmentally sound methods available are hydrocarbon and nuclear technologies.

Human use of coal, oil, and natural gas has not harmfully warmed the Earth, and the extrapolation of current trends shows that it will not do so in the foreseeable future. The CO2 produced does, however, accelerate the growth rates of plants and also permits plants to grow in drier regions. Animal life, which depends upon plants, also flourishes, and the diversity of plant and animal life is increased.

Human activities are producing part of the rise in CO2 in the atmosphere. Mankind is moving the carbon in coal, oil, and natural gas from below ground to the atmosphere, where it is available for conversion into living things. We are living in an increasingly lush environment of plants and animals as a result of this CO2 increase. Our children will therefore enjoy an Earth with far more plant and animal life than that with which we now are blessed.

Be Afraid, be Very Afraid! Part of the REAL Obama Agenda

Below is a piece from FOX which outlines the insidious nature of the Obama administration, and how what he is doing will have far reaching consequences, long after he is out of power.

Why the White House and Democrats' plans to expand the Office of Personnel Management should scare all Americans.

By Bradley Blakeman

The Obama administration seeks to empower a very powerful government agency you have probably never heard of with new and expanded powers that will have a direct consequence on every American if they are successful in their efforts to implement national health care reforms.

The Obama White House is also drunk with power and is seeking to expand the powers of government agencies to oversee and act out to affect Americans in ways that this country has never seen before.

What is the Office of Personnel and Management and why should you care?

The Office of Personnel Management, (OPM), is suppose to be an independent government agency that is charged with managing the civil service system of the federal government. If you are a federal employee then civil service laws, rules and regulations that are managed by OPM govern you. One of the main charges of OPM is to administer and oversee federal health care provided to all federal employees.

The Director of OPM is appointed directly by the president and confirmed by the Democratically controlled Senate. The current director of OPM is a fellow by the name of John Berry who, before becoming OPM director this past year, was director of the Smithsonian’s National Zoo. -- You cannot make this stuff up.

Under the Democrats' national health care scheme not only would OPM be charged with overseeing and administering federal employees health care but they will have the added charge of administering civilian federal health care as well. What does that mean? Basically, that Americans will be treated as “civil servants.” Are you starting to see the danger?

The more government seeks to control our lives the more Orwellian it gets. This “big brother” mentality that "government knows best" and that it is their mission to provide cradle to grave “care” of its citizens will doom America as we know it. Under such a system the individual becomes meaningless and the state becomes the entity upon which we are all forced to rely.

Most recently OPM made news when the Obama administration sought to use it as a tool upon which to consolidate power.

Under orders from the White House, it is being reported that OPM is on a mission to rid the executive branch bureaucracy of Bush-era personnel who are no longer political appointees and who have lawfully become civil servants.

It is not uncommon for some presidential political appointees to have the opportunity to become civil servants within the federal bureaucracy when they meet all the criteria for a federal civil service job.-- Ordinarily, a political appointee serves "at the pleasure of the president" who originally appointed that person to a particular position. When the president’s term is up their job is up as well. But, when a political appointee becomes a civil servant they are considered full- time government employees and are subject to the rules and regulations governing all other federal employees. Civil service jobs are seen a non-political jobs and are not based on appointment. They are based on merit. Their employment continues until they retire, quit, or are removed from their position for cause. It should never be permissible to remove a civil servant based solely on their political affiliation.

The Obama administration has now ordered a purging of Republicans from federal government civil service.

The Office of Federal Personnel Management, (OPM), has become the “henchman” of the Obama administration. Following orders they have issued new rules -- going back five years --wherein every employee hired, who previously had been a political appointee, will be terminated regardless of cause or poor performance.

It is clear what the intent of the Obama administration is by looking at the following statement made by John Berry the Director of OPM:

Beginning January 1, 2010, agencies must seek prior approval from OPM before they can appoint a current or recent political appointee to a competitive or non-political excepted service position at any level under the provisions of title 5, United States Code. OPM will review these proposed appointments to ensure they comply with merit system principles and applicable civil service laws. I have delegated decision-making authority over these matters to career Senior Executives at OPM to avoid any hint of political influence.

The memorandum specifically applies this change to all political appointees hired in the past 5 years and effectively works to freeze them out of their current jobs or make their lives so miserable by denying promotions, that they will quit before they are forced out.

It is outrageous that the Obama administration would politicize what is supposed to be a independent government agency and would become so vindictive and cold in their exercise of raw political power that they would take steps to eliminate people from their legitimate government employment, based solely on their political pedigree and not their job performance.

I served in the White House during the presidency of George W. Bush. When he took office, we knew that a fair amount of Clinton appointees were making the transition from political appointment positions to civil service positions and nothing was done to “root them out”. They were entitled to remain in their positions and were held to the same standard of job performance as any other civil service employee.

There is nothing worse than abuse of government power. It erodes the very fabric of our laws and respect for government institutions.

For an incoming administration to make a "witch hunt" one of its top priorities and to attempt to fire civil servants who they believe are Republican “sympathizers” is something you might have expected in the former Soviet Union or from the KGB. But it's not something we expected to see in the United States led by the White House.

The expanded “portfolio” of OPM should worry all Americans. This little known agency will make the IRS look down right friendly if the Obama administration is successful in expanding their duties, powers and responsibilities.

Burgers and Bureaucrats

The legends of public school cafeterias are, well, legendary. Burgers become Sloppy Joe's, Sloppy Joe's become mystery meat, mystery meat somehow becomes burgers again—it's a vicious cycle. And while everyone knew, even second graders, that they weren't getting the healthiest fare in the world, I'm not sure any of us knew it was as bad as it is. From USA Today:

The U.S. Department of Agriculture says the meat it buys for the National School Lunch Program "meets or exceeds standards in commercial products."

That isn't always the case. McDonald's, Burger King, Jack in the Box and Costco, for instance, are far more rigorous in checking for bacteria and dangerous pathogens. They test the ground beef they buy five to 10 times more often than the USDA tests beef made for schools during a typical production day.

And the limits Jack in the Box and other big retailers set for certain bacteria in their burgers are up to 10 times more stringent than what the USDA sets for school beef.

10 times! Have you ever been to a Jack in the Box? Not exactly gourmet food, but they obviously take quality control and testing far more serious than our government. More from the article:

For chicken, the USDA has supplied schools with thousands of tons of meat from old birds that might otherwise go to compost or pet food. Called "spent hens" because they're past their egg-laying prime, the chickens don't pass muster with Colonel Sanders— KFC won't buy them — and they don't pass the soup test, either. The Campbell Soup Company says it stopped using them a decade ago based on "quality considerations."

Now consider this: Our government wants to take control of our health care system, which amounts to 1/6 th of our economy, and these are the same people who can't even maintain the quality control standards that the fast food industry does. They've let schoolchildren be served sub-par food for years because they couldn't, or wouldn't, maintain high standards, but they want me to trust them to administer my health care needs as I become a senior citizen in the next 20 years. Yeah...right! Am I the only one who sees something wrong with this picture? Maybe we should turn our healthcare system over to McDonalds instead.

You guys HAVE GOT to watch this video! My Man Zo tells it like it is!

The Next New Power Grab

The Obama Administration is pursuing perhaps its biggest power grab yet. Climate Czar Carol Browner is trying to have the EPA regulate carbon dioxide as a pollutant under the 1970 Clean Air Act, a sweeping global warming regulatory agenda without a vote of Congress.

Their biggest problem is the law. The 1970 Clean Air Act clearly does not allow them to regulate the way they want. If the EPA insists on shoehorning greenhouse gas regulation into the 1970 Clean Air Act, the result will be regulation of millions of businesses, warehouses, and even schools. Instead, they want to create new rules pretending the law says something it doesn't.

They call it the "tailoring rule," because they are attempting to tailor their regulations to just the particular industries they want to regulate. Even worse, the tailoring rule is unlikely to be effective, instead opening up a floodgate of regulations from state regulators and judges who will not be bound by the EPA rule. They will be free to regulate everything that moves and lots of things that don't.

Please click the link below to send an official comment to the EPA objecting to this outrageous, illegal power-grab:

Send your comment to the EPA

In addition, you should contact your representatives in Congress and tell them we pay members of the House and Senate to make laws, NOT the EPA. Tell them to start doing their jobs and take on the EPA, instead of rolling over and playing dead. Ask them who works for whom. Tell them if they don't do their jobs, next year you'll replace them with someone who will.

You Are a Slave Owner...

Harry Reid is a full blown moronic clown of a man. He actually stated point blank that the opposition to health care reform is akin to the opposition to outlawing slavery, or the opposition to a woman's right to vote. Are you serious Harry Reid? How can Nevada continue to elect this kind of guy to the Senate...

Squeeze Time – Senators Need To Hear From You Now!!!

December 7, 2009 By Skip MaClure

I feel like a carnival barker sometimes, or maybe one of those TV pitchmen. I dislike repetition.

Hell of an endeavor for a guy that hates saying the same thing over and over. Still, it has something to be said for those of us who aren’t real quick copies. The Marine Corps has the repetition thing down to a fine art, and they have shown some VERY remarkable results.

It’s CRUNCH TIME, people. The Senate’s Dingy Harry Reid had the Anointed One (who graciously descended from Olympus) come down and harangue the Senators about the dire necessity of taking one for the team. For that is what it shall surely be as the debate on the health care bill, more aptly described as the UNHEALTHY FOR AMERICA bill, winds toward Christmas and the coming New Year, which a number of politicians in both houses have every right to be concerned about.

Aside from the millions of letters, telephone calls, emails and direct visitation to Congress members’ offices, there’s the little matter of EIGHT OR NINE MILLION PINK SLIPS sent to members’ mailboxes by individual concerned voters, telling these linguine-spined politicians that if they vote for that bill, WHICH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE CLEARLY DO NOT WANT, we will vote them out of office. We can thank Joseph Farah for that bit of inspired pressure inducement. If you wish to join the pink slip movement, Joseph can be found on World Net Daily.

The Republican minority leadership has the Demarxists ducking, dodging and weaving behind the disclosure that the BENEFICENT Liberals have whacked another FORTY BILLION DOLLARS away from in-home care for SENIORS (“just give them pain pills”, Obama). That was something they’d just as soon American seniors weren’t made aware of. Turn up the heat! Let em’ squirm. These self same politicians are the ones who continuously vote themselves out of legislation with which they saddle the American people, though in all probability HAD NEVER TAKEN THE TROUBLE TO READ!!!

They wonder at the state of near rebellion in this country? They wonder that the popularity of the American Congress ranks right up there with trial lawyers?

There are a couple of Senators that need your gentle tutelage, especially this week or maybe this whole month.

Virginia Democrat Senators Jim Webb and Mark Warner are sending signals that they may waffle on this thing and vote for it pretending that it it would somehow benefit the American people. These politicians can rationalize their way around just about anything.

Let’s let these two guys know that we are preparing to rationalize them out of office. While you’re at it, don’t forget to let the other 98 know that we are hot on their tails too. Be they Democrat or Republican, that’s OUR house! That is OUR government and this is OUR country!!

Good Intentions

I was listening to one of the national conservative radio shows as I drove across Tennessee and Georgia yesterday (I don't remember which show, sorry) and there was a call that sums things up so well. The caller was a self identified liberal. He was asking the host why he was being so hard on Barrack Obama. The host replied with logic presenting facts on the positive results of cutting taxes in a suffering economy, pointing out why so many of the actions of this administration trample on the constitution etc. You know all of the logical fact based arguments you see on this blog.

The caller responded by saying something like "I think Obama is trying hard" and "The President does not deserve to be criticized because he is trying hard." And my favorite "I think his intentions are good." Frankly speaking, it was the very reason we started this blog last Summer summed up in a 5 minute telephone call. Conservatism is the politics of logic and reason while Liberalism is the politics of emotion and good intentions. Yep that sums it up nicely. Of course as the old saying goes - The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

As for me, as always, give me liberty or give me death.

Ironic, isn't it?

Does anyone else find it ironic that its been a month since the terrorist Hasan went on a shooting rampage at Ft. Hood, killing and wounding dozens of people, but we have no substantive Congressional investigations yet into how we could have missed the signs of this whacko existing in our military, but we do have Congress ramping up to investigate the two publicity hounds who crashed the White House party?

Kind of makes you wonder where priorities are centered in Congress… or more importantly, where they are not.

And, for anyone who’s interested, the national debt just clicked over 12 trillion this morning.

Have a nice day.

The Great Appeaser

Obama’s speech last night was simply pathetic. If there ever was an antithesis to a “War Time President,” he is it. This speech was an aspiration at best, rather than an inspiration. A Winston Churchill he was not; for that matter, he wasn’t even a Jimmy Carter. Could you possibly imagine this guy being in charge during a real military crisis? I actually shudder at the possibility, which grows more possible everyday.

What Obama tried to do in his speech, is what he has always done; he tried to be the appeaser. He tried to appease the right by sending some troops, but not enough, and he tried to appease the left by talking about an exit strategy, which set us up for failure. No one wins in this situation, least of all our soldiers and the American people, who will be at risk when our enemies gain strength from our blunder.

I didn’t hear ANY details on how he was going to accomplish goal one in Afghanistan, but I did hear when we were leaving. So did the Taliban and Al Qaeda… very clearly. He needs to stick to community organizing and leave military strategy to the experts. All that he will accomplish is solidifying our enemy’s plans; they simply will hunker down and wait until we leave, now that they have a timetable. Obama wouldn’t do very well on that game show, as even a fifth grader could figure this out.

The very saddest thing in all this is that more of our soldiers will die in Afghanistan, as in war, this is inevitable. But now, because we have no clear plans to win there, they will simply die in vain.

A Jewel from Patrick Henry

And finally my final post for the day. A quote from the original Patrick Henry. Words of wisdom to live by in today's troubled times:

Guard with jealous attention the public liberty. Suspect everyone who approaches that jewel. Unfortunately, nothing will preserve it but downright force. Whenever you give up that force, you are inevitably ruined. - Patrick Henry

How many of the Washington Law Makers (Constitution / Liberty Breakers) are approaching the jewel of Liberty with ill intent?

Yep Patrick, I'm with you sir. Give me liberty or give me death.
